ALL THINGS NATURAL
Welcome to my page all things natural. I want to stress that I am not a veterinary surgeon, and my views are based on my lifetime living with animals, speaking to medical professionals, reading books and medical papers, sitting in seminars at referral centres, and of course the internet. I learnt many years ago that their is a conflicting view that veterinary surgeons are not always right. We pay for their professional opinion based on their learning which is a structured learning by the Royal college of veterinary surgeons. I also have admiration and can not do with out veterinary surgeons because any dog will need at some point the help of a vet. But what I learnt was if you rear puppies naturally, so not feeding food which is unnatural to it, the dogs are healthier. Puppies also grow slowly which is better for their joints. We live in a world where we are subjected to chemicals in the food we eat, the air we breath, the water we drink. For dogs they are in more contact with farmland chemicals, pollution and poisons we put on their fur each month to kill parasites.
When you can start to think outside the box, and understand a conventional vets views on vaccines, feeding, parasite control is not always right, you will start to question more and more what you are doing. Vets
FACT: Dogs are fitting from vaccines, flea and wormers.

MY STORY ON WHY I STARTED TO FEED OUR DOGS RAW FOODS
It was actually the first Weimaraner I brought in 1992 as a pet which made me realise something wasn't quite right. I brought her some puppy food which ran through her like water. One day she had 14 pools of diarrhoea, and it was not a virus. Being coeliac myself the penny dropped quickly that the food was not suiting her. The dog was intolerant to wheat gluten. But back then no one flew to the vets for every single thing, we worked it out ourselves. I did try endless dried alternatives before I came to the decision to feed her meat and bone. I spoke to my father and asked him “What did he feed the farm dogs?”, the answer was scraps off the table and raw meaty bones. I thought about this, and of course the storey unfolds. Back in world war 2 steel became short, tinned dog food was scrapped and suddenly the America companies were selling to the UK dried dog food in sacks. No one had heard of dried dog food up until then. So I went along to a local butcher and asked for 10 LB of dog meat. He was selling it at 16p for 2 LB, thats how much things have changed now. I went home cleared space in freezer and then defrosted her food and fed over the next few days. I woke up and no diarrhoea, in fact she was waiting to go outside to the toilet which she had not done before. She could not hold herself on dried food, it ran through her. So this change in diet seemed to really suit. But what followed was a puppy which was not lethargic, she had more energy, her skin which was dehydrated before was supple. That was enough for me then to go out and buy a big freezer and fill it full of dog meat.
Over the years we had more dogs and a different dog died of bloat on holiday after I had taken a dried sack of food with me, as raw was impractical to take in a caravan and the freezer was so small I would not of held a days worth of food for 2 big Weimaraners. So I took i dried, and I brought rice based food, thinking avoid gluten. But my dog died from bloat and gastric torsion. I had an autopsy done on her as I wanted to know why a fit and healthy dog could be well one minute and drop down the next. They confirmed it was fermented dried food in the gut which had caused the gas, then twisting of the gut.
Years later I sat through a seminar on bloat and gastric torsion. Breeds of dogs which are long in the back, deep Chested and have large sternum bones have more room for bloating than a dog which is short in back. Too much room inside can create a problem with the gut but the triggers are mainly food. A dog can bloat from stress, which can be going to a dog show, just whelped a litter, over heated, a male mating a bitch, or food types. When asking what food is better for dogs, the specialists said raw food. Dried food compacts in the gut like a hard stodgy mess, and when they go inside the dog to try and suck out the food which is what they have to do with bloat if its dried they sigh as most likely the dog is not going to live, the stomach starts to die off quick and the food is difficult to remove. If its tinned food they can get the pipe in and suck it out easily as it stays soft inside the stomach. But if its raw food, its actually digested slower, and is usually in the bowel, so they know that raw foods dogs can bloat but its not the food which is the cause. So you eliminate bloat by gassy food.
So what else can happen if someone feeds raw ? A man came to me with a West highland terrier, its coat was thin on top, mainly skin exposed and weak hairs sticking out the top from sores. It was an oozing mess. He asked me to groom what litter hair it had on the head and legs. He told me he had spent over £500 at vets trying to get the skin sorted out, and in the end no one knew what was the cause. I asked him if he was open minded enough to try a different diet. He did and the results were quite remarkable. The next time the dog came to me which was 11 weeks later, the oozing had stopped. The next time the skin had changed colour and healed. The next time we could see fine hairs appearing on the back. The next time the dog had a coat! He couldn't believe it, and I was overjoyed for him.

Here are some points which are benefits for feeding raw foods.
I was recently speaking to a holistic vet who said to me, you feed your dogs raw dont you ? I said I do, and he said I can tell just by looking at a dog what diet it is on. Surely thats enough to convert you to raw feeding ? Check out my diet page
Remember dogs are descendants from wolves, okay they are domesticated but their are still elements which thrive on eating food which they are designed to eat. If you feed the raw diet you should feed the 80/10/10 ration. Which is 80 muscle meat, 10 bone and 10 offal.
Dogs need also amino acids to function and their is approx 11 needed to live, and another 3 which are needed but its not a daily requirement. If you feed a varied diet to your dog, you will actually be giving all the nutrients your dog requires. It is easy however to get stuck on feeding one food group which is not enough.
The first year of your dogs life is the most important. It is setting down building blocks to grow correctly, for hormones to function properly, and for your dog to lead a healthy life. Dogs which are not fed correctly can have hip or elbow dysplasia, cartilage disease, growth problems, and lack of muscle growth. Your dog also requires fats, fruits, herbs, veg, and oils to name a few, and of course adding taurine at least a few times a week.
- Skin is supple
- Skin is healthy
- No dandruff
- Coat shines
- No hives or weeping skin
- No having gas and clearing a room in seconds.
- Stools firmer, less stools.
- Teeth cleaner
- Dog has more energy
- Eyes are brighter

NATURAL WORMING AND FLEA TREATMENT
The first time I saw a reaction to flea and wormer was my first Pug Frankie. We did not know why at the time, she had been given a product and the next day I woke up and she had the largest hot spot I had ever seen. I still didn't realise it was the flea treatment. The next month I gave a different product still not realising the extend of these reactions. The sores appeared again. I went to the vets for advice, I was told she needed a skin scrape. It came back clear. I was told various things and nothing worked. We learnt if we shaved the hair off the area it dried out and healed. But their was no reason as to why this was. One vet said to me he thought she was allergic to my cats, and to keep her away from the cats. But she broke out again the following month. Why? Because I had flea treated her again.
The penny finally dropped it was the poisons we were putting on her skin to kill parasites. Since we stopped using flea and wormer she has never been poorly since, and she has never had a flea or worm either.
Now their are a few products which seem worse than others. I cant legally mention names, but one is a tablet that’s ingested and is supposed to last 3 months. One vet said to me thank goodness I had never given her this product, as its known to be in the system longer than 3 months and we would be gradually killing the dog.
So what symptoms can flea and wormer show in dogs today?
If your dogs been diagnosed as having epilepsy and you think its the flea and wormer treatment, stop treating immediately. Seek a holistic vets advice for proper detoxing of the body, the follow their guidelines.
Check out www.dogsnaturallymagazine.co.uk for more information on natural products to use instead of conventional.
Your holistic vet will advice, but lots of people do worm counts rather than worming now. Lots of my friends use it with great success.

Wormers which are natural are:
Billy no mates
diatomaceous earth
Pumpkin seeds
Rabbit fur, so hairy rabbit ears or rabbit skin.
Apple cider vinegar with the mother in. So cloudy.
Natural flea treatment such as neem oil shampoo
Essential oils
Did you know that if you feed a dog a raw diet, and a healthy diet, they are less likely to get parasites anyway.

VACCINE REACTIONS
Vaccine and the turning point for me to study vaccines reactions.
The equivalent to the Kennel club but for cats is the G.C.C.F, I used to breed Siamese kittens prob 20 years ago. I had a litter of six very healthy kittens, that went to the vets to be vaccinated. After vaccine they were alittle lethargic but nothing to alert me to what was going on. We went to bed, and in the morning got up and to my horror every kitten had died in their basket that night. I found this very upsetting. I rang the vet who said poppycock! The cats must of died from something else. They were large healthy kittens, and the vet had said they had good hearts.
I then had a Vizsla who after vaccine had chronic diarrhoea, again another sign of vaccine. Saw the vet and she said to me, hmm yes we do see several sick dogs after vaccine. Told me not to have second vaccine which I didnt.
So on with studying into vaccine reaction I learnt at Dick whites referrals, a specialist hospital that vaccine damage is seen more often than we think. 75% were euthanised as no treatment for brain damage. The brains clearly were inflamed and they call it post vaccine inflammation. I found medical papers online stating the ill effects vaccine was doing to our dogs. From immediate reaction to 6 months of age. Are some breeds more sensitive to chemical than others I asked myself? I think yes. But now with facebook groups set up for people whose dogs are sick or died from vaccine damage it is quite shocking the amount.
If you can give your puppy antihistamine for 5 days before vaccine it can help.
So what are we vaccinating for? Just Parvo virus, hepatitis, Distemper, Lepto.
Go to. U Tube and write in the search section, Dr Ronald Schultz and he has done talks and posted on U Tube. He is not anti vaccine as he is a scientist who makes vaccine. He talks about how we are vaccinating our animals wrongly. A puppy has its mothers antibodies up to 16 weeks of age. Assuming the mother has antibodies. At 16 weeks is the ideal time to vaccinate. They are bigger, stronger, and less stressed from house move.
Their are two types of Leptospirosis vaccines. 2 & 4. Do not have 4! Why? Because in 2018 over 2000 dogs died from that vaccine, I haven’t read how many in 2019/2020. Although I’m seeing on a daily basis on a facebook page where this dog is sick, then that one.

EARLY NEUTERING OF MALES AND FEMALES
For many years no study had been done as to why dogs were getting more and more cancers. In particular, lymphoma, bone cancer, Mast Cell Tumours. The increase is effecting every single breed of dog. Studies done do show that dogs come into more contact with chemical than expected. Farm land chemicals, car pollution, tobacco, and poor diet. But they thought their was something else, so a study done in America started. We were lucky as Vizsla was one of the first breeds they looked at. The result was the trigger for cancers and cause of cancers was neutering males too young, spaying females too young, or spaying/neutering at all. If dogs are left intact their incident of cancers were reduced dramatically.
So the conclusion is because early neutering can cause hip dysplasia, elbow, and cartilage disease that the dog must be an adult before considering desexing. In females they should have 2-3 seasons before you consider doing it. So the bitch must be over 2 years of age. The male can be done approx 2 years as well.
Go to http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthy pets/archive/2016/07/27neutering-spaying-effects.aspx?
Go to U TUBE and type in Dr Karen Becker, early spaying or neutering and many pages will come up.
So what other effects can happen?
It is time that these studies are of actual benefit to UK vets, because they are ignored. The amount of times I hear that a dogs just been spayed and its 5 months of age, or 12 months of age. Vets then blame the breeding as they dont want the truth to be known. Owners then blame the breeders, and in fact its not the breeders fault. If you want to early neuter it is your choice, no one can tell you what to do, but if you truly want your dog to have the best chance of living a longer life, you must not remove the hormone too early. The hormone is so important in every aspect.
We must also realise that cancers are on the increase in all breeds of dogs. Their acceleration into old age is something we can not turn back the clock. In the Victorian times humans lived to the age of 40. With modern science we now live to 80. But dogs life spans vary between breeds and you are extremely lucky these days to get a dog to 10-11 years. Some breeds are longer living than others and funnily enough that is the Pug. I have heard of many reaching 14-15 years of age. Dogs because they have short lifespans are considered veterans at the age of 7. Thats quite a shock to many as they expected their dog not to be old until 15. From 7 the dog changes, and you will see a big difference by the time the dog is 9-10. The joints like humans are effected by arthritis, they are more likely to get cancers and heart issues. Like humans in their 60's plus. So as much as we want dogs to live forever, sadly they wont do that for us.

DRUG sensitivity
Some animals have a sensitivity to the drugs they are given. One case springs to mind where a dog we bred was castrated early. A Weimaraner, and he didnt want to come around very well after the operation. But when he came around he was aggressive, he flew for the vet, he flew at the owner. No one could understand why this well mannered easy dog changed after an operation. The drugs he was given during his operation had effected the brain and with in another 24 hours the dog had to be put to sleep.
Drug sensitivity can also be hives breaking out, or large lumps, some lumps stay as hard lumps and others are soft and need draining as they can turn to an abscess.
It is indeed strange why drugs can effect some animals, but effect it they can. We also bred a British short hair cat, and three years ago he was healthy and went in for a routine castration and died on the table. The drugs they gave him killed him. We do hear of this in humans as well, so its not unheard of, but their is sensitivities to drugs in some dogs, cats and humans.
If you suspect your dogs unwell after any antibiotic, discontinue and call vet and they will dispense another one. Dogs can be lethargic, sway, wobble, hives.
Their are some human medicines dog should not ever had. Strange why some vets are prescribing them.
Paracetamol is a killer in dogs, and you are slowly poisoning the dog if you give the dog this drug. A friends Vizsla died from paracetamol poisoning her vet prescribed for her.
Remember any behavioural difference in your dog you should stop the drug and contact vet immediately.

Brachycephalic breeds such as French bulldog and Pug
These breeds have a short palate and you should only go to a brachycephalic breed loving vet, as they will know that if the dog needs an operation they should not be sedated. Their throat can collapse during a GA so a pipe must be put down quickly to help them breathe. Some vets are not experienced in these breeds. They can be allergic to drugs like any dog but I think probably more sensitive.
These breeds also can sick a lot, they can get phlegm sick which they bring up if they are over eating, or over heating, or eating grass, or fatty foods.
