I was questioned today about how often I groom my dogs considering I own several.
The answer is each dog is different. I own a poodle who is groomed daily. The rest of my dogs I do a tip of nose health to tail health. I do it weekly. But some dogs will require daily ear cleaning like Braccos. When I do a tip of nose to tail check, im looking at nose to see if it's healthy, and not crusty. If it's crusty I use a nose balm. I look at eyes, ears, all over the body to tip of tail. I clean teeth if required. I bath if required. I empty anal glands if required. Checking skin and no blemishes or special potions as I call them required. I am very much a hands on type of owner so I feel the dogs. I am looking at them daily to make sure there are no lame dogs, no cuts and bruises from playing and so on. Eyes in the back of my head watching the dogs. It's just a natural part of ownership. It is a full time job looking after dogs, and making sure all are healthy. I took four dogs to the vets this week for annual Lepto 2 vaccine and all he could say was. "Fab they are just fab, really good condition." This good condition comes from diet, and me looking after them. We do not just sit and look at dogs thinking they look pretty, we are hands on looking after their welfare. Rachel xx I have been busy as always. In a dog home your never sitting down twiddling thumbs and your busy all the time.
Birdies puppies are doing fantastic. Thank you to all the people who contacted us for a puppy. We can not help everyone, all I can say is if you with to remain with us then let me know and I will put you on our next waiting list. Please be aware if you are on our waiting list then say you can not have one, but want one from the next litter the chances are slim as we do not entertain time wasters. We know their are genuine cases, but when we hear then that person has been on other waiting lists and come up with excuses for 3 other litters. We know then you really cant have one. A lesson to learn hopefully that you will only contact someone when you can put the time into a puppy or money. Dogs are not cheap and it's not the initial payment of the puppy which is the big cost these days. Insurance and vet bills, plus food are your biggest payments. So get everything in line before you contact a breeder and make sure you have the time ahead of you. As much as we are supposed to be a business we never feel like we are, because we are family breeders. So this means in the home, and we choose you to love and look after that baby for 14 years. So we give a part of us to you. That life and soul of love we put into our little puppies. Another point to raise. If you are allergic to dogs. Do not purchase a Vizsla, bracco or any dog other than a wool coated breed. Even then some people are allergic. Living with a dog is different to coming across a dog in the park and you were okay. We maintain a healthy interest in the health and welfare of dogs.
We are committed to the health and welfare of our dogs, we would not breed from them if we had not undergone health testing. But there is not health tests for every health problem. Many times breeders will have to breed by avoidance. But Epilepsy is one horrible disease that needs a helping hand from you. There is a current study being done at Cambridge university for Epilepsy. With the hope that if they can get enough samples of dogs they maybe able to determine the genes which cause epilepsy. It is true that the Vizsla could have Epilepsy, but they have a smaller percent chances of getting it to other breeds. But non the less we hear every day of new dogs diagnoses on Facebook from all various bloodlines. Today I was told about a rescue dog with epilepsy. Can you help the breed? If you own a Vizsla healthy or with Epilepsy contact Cambridge direct to see if they require your dna sample from your dog. It is easy to do. The dog must be 8 years of age. You will need the Kennel club form and registration number for details. If you do not own the kennel club document contact them anyway as they maybe able to take your dogs details regardless. With out a big push now for DNA samples from 8 year old dogs we can not help the breed develop a DNA test for it. Epilepsy comes in various forms. Some is mistaken diagnosis as its reactions to vaccine, flea and wormer. But that is not for me to decide and thats up to your veterinary surgeon. THIS IS THE EMAIL TO ask if you can submit DNA and they will send you cell swabs, all you do is brush the inside of the cheek of your dog and submit. [email protected] We have submitted DNA from our older Vizsla in the hope thats one more to help the cause. She is fit and healthy and does not have Epilepsy. We have encouraged all our owners also to be a part of this scheme as the more samples the better. A reminder to say the password is being updated. We change this every few months to keep hackers at bay and constant spam sent to my website. Just text me for the new word.
Rachel xx We have not done a show in ages. But decided to go to Boston open show and Boston Championship show. Then today Sunday we stewarded for the Whippet Club.
Eddie went to Boston open show and won 1st place in Junior. Maverick went to Boston Champ show and won 3rd place, which is a crufts qualified place in Open class and then he won his stud book number. This means he does not have to go to champ shows to qualify as he is automatically qualified. Willow was 2nd in Yearling bitch and she qualified for Crufts 25. Then it was turn for the Bracco. Nancy was in junior and won 2nd place which qualified her for Crufts 25 Vespa was in Open and won 2nd place which qualified her for Crufts 25 We are now on alert for Birdie's babies who are due on Friday. Tomorrow we get ready the office room for her and get her whelping box in, heat lamp and get my mid wife pack in there. Birdie has gone off her food now, which is when puppies press on the stomach and feeling very uncomfortable. Fingers crossed it goes smoothly. Plus not night time please Birdie lol |
