The breeds we own are not protection dog breeds. For true protection dogs you need to look at Mastiff breeds, Rottweiler, Doberman, Belgium Mallinois, German Shepherd.
Our dog breeds are Gun dog, Utility and although the sheer noise of them or size of them puts off a lot of people from coming onto your property. They really are not guard dogs. The Bracco is a gun dog, hunting dog but the size and noise of them when they get spooked is enough to scare anyone. I laugh and say Amazon wont come on the property if they see Geralt marching around. But he is soft as a pudding! But I say he is my dog and he will stand beside me for protection as I feel his energy. The Vizsla makes a lot of noise and is quick and speedy around people which can put people off, French bulldogs are small but powerful and I do believe mine would protect me, especially our boy Reggie. He doesn't suffer fools gladly. But he's soft as muck. So yes your dog will put a lot of people off coming up to you or approaching you. But they are not guard breeds. Guarding breeds are lovely but take a lot of training. We have excellent trainers in the UK who will train dogs for that job. I think the way the UK is at the moment theirs an increase in medium to large sized dogs for protection. From what Im being told and I really do not blame you for thinking this way as Ive said it myself, thank god for my dogs. But if you want a true protection breed the gun dog group is not it. But a lot of people do not know this and the sheer size of some dogs does put people off. We had it this weekend where a delivery driver could hear my dogs in the yard and he was so very scared in case they could get out. I remember one of our Weimaraner's protected my husband years back and this is a gun dog also. He chased off thieves and grabbed on of them. Quite honestly any theif would be an idiot to walk onto my property. So Im grateful I have my pack. They hear a leaf drop let alone a footstep.
