We maintain a healthy interest in the health and welfare of dogs.
We are committed to the health and welfare of our dogs, we would not breed from them if we had not undergone health testing. But there is not health tests for every health problem. Many times breeders will have to breed by avoidance. But Epilepsy is one horrible disease that needs a helping hand from you. There is a current study being done at Cambridge university for Epilepsy. With the hope that if they can get enough samples of dogs they maybe able to determine the genes which cause epilepsy. It is true that the Vizsla could have Epilepsy, but they have a smaller percent chances of getting it to other breeds. But non the less we hear every day of new dogs diagnoses on Facebook from all various bloodlines. Today I was told about a rescue dog with epilepsy. Can you help the breed? If you own a Vizsla healthy or with Epilepsy contact Cambridge direct to see if they require your dna sample from your dog. It is easy to do. The dog must be 8 years of age. You will need the Kennel club form and registration number for details. If you do not own the kennel club document contact them anyway as they maybe able to take your dogs details regardless. With out a big push now for DNA samples from 8 year old dogs we can not help the breed develop a DNA test for it. Epilepsy comes in various forms. Some is mistaken diagnosis as its reactions to vaccine, flea and wormer. But that is not for me to decide and thats up to your veterinary surgeon. THIS IS THE EMAIL TO ask if you can submit DNA and they will send you cell swabs, all you do is brush the inside of the cheek of your dog and submit. [email protected] We have submitted DNA from our older Vizsla in the hope thats one more to help the cause. She is fit and healthy and does not have Epilepsy. We have encouraged all our owners also to be a part of this scheme as the more samples the better.
