Price increase

I mentioned earlier this week that some changes were afoot in the way we price our puppies.

This was triggered by 2 ladies, 1 wanted to use Tango at stud and was charging £3850 a puppy.  We did turn this lady down for stud, and she has now booked another dog.

Then the 2nd lady who we didn't turn down is charging 3k a puppy.  She is experienced, and has a lovely bitch to standard and same blood lines as one of my dogs.  They will be some beautiful puppies. 

Everyone is saying to us, why are your puppies cheaper compared to cross breeds, or other Vizsla.  I had someone who we found out was on two lists. Ours and someone else who was 4k.  It made us think why are we shooting ourselves in the foot each time.  Just struggling by to the next litter. 

I rang a very good friend and mentor of mine in Vizsla and she told me that they are also raising prices because its not sustainable any more.   We had the same problems.  We also talked about how people are buying dogs from people like us then selling them on for double or treble the amount.  Ive since spoken to a  few breeder friends who are all upping the prices. 

Darryl does my accounts and we can not sustain our dogs any more if we do not raise prices now, or we will go bust.  We are at the point of stopping entirely unless we change our prices.  He can not keep mopping up my losses.  

For so many people they see dogs are a huge income, but they do not realise if you do it properly then although you take x amount of pounds, you also are spending huge amount of pounds. If I said to you work for 24 hours a day for 365 days a year for nothing, you would laugh.  Even to make £1000 is not enough to cover then emergency veterinary care. 

Veterinary costs money, food, licenses, training costs, time, health tests costs money.

My licensing officer who knows my accounts has also said we don't even meet the business test with our income.  She told me to raise prices last April and we only did slightly, but it was not enough.  Another vet has told us to rise prices, and she said you do all these health tests at great expense why wouldn't you be higher ?

This is all bad timing of course for our next litter.  I had already spoken to people this week for Roux's litter and told them the new price and everyone has said thats completely fine.  

In business you can change prices.  You do not have to be holden to any price unless you have taken a deposit.  

So our prices have changed as from today.  I am sorry that some of you will probably not stay with us, but we can not change this, as Darryl said to me, another loss means letting your dogs go.   If we were having two litters of Vizsla per month every month of the year, we could keep costs down. But we do not breed enough.   

The future of our Pugs is uncertain for breeding.

I shall put on website next week when the pups are born.  We could end up with some available if people go elsewhere.
