Finally the news most people have been waiting a long time to hear now. We have successfully mated Rogue to Indie.
I shall scan her around 12th January so watch the website for news. I will then ask everyone to come forward and text me who is waiting. Joshuas girl is being mated in next few days. Her list is pretty full unless someone wants to come over to Rogues. We can make that decision once scans have given us numbers. After over 20 years of breeding dogs we seem to of learnt more about fertility in the last 12 months than during 20 years. I think when you own an easy breed of dog to mate such as a Weimaraner you don't have to think too much which date is correct for ovulation. But when you own small breeds and the Vizsla they are much more difficult to interpret when they are ready for various reasons. Im pretty convinced Vizsla have fake seasons. Ive seen split seasons, fake seasons, pregnancy's that get absorbed, to just not falling pregnant. Finding the exact date of ovulation gives optimum chances of a pregnancy and this can only truly be done with progesterone testing. Then we have to think about getting optimum sperm, and optimum eggs released. This is something which can be boosted with vitamins and minerals, oils etc. For those breeders reading this, wheat germ oil has been used for generations with fertility in humans as well as animals. We have always used wheat germ oil in our dogs and I always found if I used it I would get approx 2-3 more puppies than if I didn't use it. But now research has shown that folic acid is important to fertility and in the smaller breeds which can have cleft palates having 1 tablet per day a few weeks before mating and during the weeks of pregnancy can avoid cleft palate. We do not see cleft palates in Vizsla, this is more to do with the brachycephellic head shapes. Vitamin C is another one thats used commonly in all dog breeders dogs, to help boost immunity and help fertility. Vitamin B is a very important vitamin to add to dogs diets. Green lipped muscle improves fertility in males. This is something Ive learnt in the last two weeks from Sonia who owned Frank the frenchie. We know that green lipped muscle is used in dogs with arthritis or hip dysplasia for generations, but we have never heard of it being used to boost sperm production and apparently if you use to 3-4 days before mating a male to a bitch it can double sperm production. Most people assume its so easy to mate dogs together and get a pregnancy through to birth but its not. Today in modern society with poor diets dogs get they may well lack a lot of vitamins and minerals needed to sustain pregnancies. So we must give a varied diet including fats, and amino acids. Their is in fact a whole different diet we give our dogs who are being mated now to the ones who are not breeding with. For example the older dogs who are spayed or finished breeding with they are on far less calories per day now. As they do not need to be built up to sustain a pregnancy. Spayed bitches also can put on weight so they are on a far less protein diet than a breeding dog. We literally spend thousands in our dogs diets, with all the added nutrients, to an abundance of treats all natural. The reason is a happy dog is much more likely to sustain a pregnancy than a dog with mental health from boredom and lack of doing things. For example good healthy exercise daily, with good diet, and then lots of treats keeps dogs mental well being satisfied and contend is very important. Individual attention is a must also. Its easy with a lot of dogs to get complacent and do little with them, thinking they will entertain each other. But they actually need one on one each day with their humans. Happy dogs are healthy dogs
