When our dogs come to the end of their breeding years with us, we retire them. I always remove their pages from the website as not to confuse people looking for puppies who the mum is. I have photos of the parents at the bottom of each individual page so people can see the dogs.
We are now retiring two of our Pugs, Rita who has had 2 litters of puppies. Her last litter was a struggle for her, and we believe Rita is better having just the 2 litters. As I have a daughter from her which is Sabrina. I shall spay her in the New Year. This means next year I shall have but one breeding Pug. I am also retiring Bruce from mating any of our bitches. He is now 6 years of age, and soon to be 7. At 7 dogs are considered veterans. Only in exceptional cases would I use a veteran on any bitch. We may still own the dogs but it doesn’t mean they are all breeding dogs. We have to consider their welfare of course, and just because it states on paper a dog can have four litters, it doesn't mean they should have four litters. We have to take each dogs welfare into account. I hope you realise this is what makes a responsible dog breeder, that the mothers are more important to us, than any financial gain we may have from a litter. Bubbles is also considered retired now. She also has had two litters, and once her babies have left us, I shall remove her page, but add her photo to the end of her daughters page.
