We welcome Frodo to team Silvestre (Updated)
Frodo came to us in 2024 after living at Risley Kennels in Ireland for all his life. He became an Irish Champion in Ireland.
We wanted a new blood line to introduce to ours with out going to Europe to find it. After conversations with Catherine, Frodo came to us. I am extremely grateful to Catherine as it's not easy letting dogs go. But her life was changing and we were lucky enough to have him. So let me tell you about Frodo and his characteristics.
I wish and I mean this from the bottom of my heart that he had come to me at 8 weeks and I had the fun of showing him. Because he's absolutely heart melting in looks and temperament. I love this boy so much!! I have missed a lot of his life, but I truly believe I have the best parts to his life. When he snuggles up against me on the sofa, or he's upside down with his legs in the air, I look at him and think what a wonderful dog he is. I hope he can give me a son as handsome as he is, and if he does I shall be so happy.
When he came to us he was not used to living in a busy household, but he settled in straight away. He had to get used to new owners, new diet, new environment. My top male Indie (Oldest male), I will never forget, walked up to Frodo as if to say what are you doing here? They sniffed each other, and had a real look at each other, then walked off in opposite direction. Indie looked up at me and said with his expression, oh he will do mum, he will do! Frodo just walked in and it has been like he lived here all his life. What a fantastic temperament. Everyone who knew Frodo from showing years ago would say, Oh Frodo has the sweetest nature and they were not wrong. He got on fine with my little dogs as well as bigger dogs. Geralt my Bracco accepted him in an instant and actually they have a love affair which is still going on. Funny dogs! Geralt kinda showed him the ropes and both of them get on like a house on fire.
Frodo is so sweet and he is so good to take anywhere, he loves the woodlands and beaches and he loves to sit in my car even if I pop to the post office. ! In fact it's now Frodo and Geralt that sit in the back and watching the world go by. Those two always go together, and if I don't take them Willow comes. But they do not like it if I don't take them now ha ha.
A funny quirk! I think because Frodo was fed dried food he may of got so used to it so when we changed he did not really want raw food. I put down some minces and he wasn't sure. So I then popped down a Chicken Carcass and he eyes nearly exploded. I found something that he loved. Now he will eat anything raw, he eats chicken carcass, Bulmer minces, durham animal feeds minces. Treats galore. He's died and gone to heaven as the expression goes. So this is his funny quirk! He dances for food. He taps his feet!!! He's so dam cute I love it. He makes me giggle now when he does it as he is quite the funny comical boy. Frodo was weighed today on the 19th February 2025 and he's put on weight. OOPS! He was 24 kilos and now is 29. He has obviously enjoyed his food a lot. He still does not look fat so I have no plans on dieting him and the vet said he looks in perfect health. The raw food suits him. I gave him some fresh tripe the other day and he looked at that rather suspiciously as if to say what is this sorcery you have put in front of me! So I chopped it up smaller and then he ate it. I think he was rather suspicious though and it was not his favourite. But now I have found out he has put on 5 kilos I should probably not give him fatty tripe. ha ha. He is happy what can I say!
Frodo has a melting headpiece, with that chiselled handsome male head which is being lost today. He reminds me how they looked 10-15 years ago in looks. There is no mistaking he is a boy. A boy should look like a boy and a girl a girl. I am proud of him, when I watch him run and I think what a handsome boy he is. He is a strong dog. He is moderate and not too tall, but he has the bone he needs to look like a boy. He is not huge in height as some can be. He is breed standard size. Frodo has superb construction and importantly the forechest bone and depth of chest needed to breath well. We see so many poor specimens these days in males and females.
Frodo wears a special collar! This collar is hand made by me with a mountain scene on it. I loved it and it's not cheap but he deserves the best collar! He also wears a designer tag on it. Only the best for my boy!
Frodo is also so typical of the breed where blankets are concerned. He has a bottom pad in the crate and on top 2 thick beds, plus 1 blanket. He sometimes covers himself in the top blanket. But Frodo is also allowed to sleep on our sofa. Hes not so keen on the floor, probably because he is older now and likes more comfort. But there are times when we have girls in season he has to go into a crate. Other wise we would have Frodo babies everywhere.
Stud dog - Sorry guys and gals he is not available to anyone but us. I took Frodo on by agreement that he would not be held at open stud and I would have to run any female by Catherine. I really do not want my dogs used at open stud as it's too much hassle. Also it appears from the amount of enquires I do get that no-one is licensed as they should be. So much for hoping that animal welfare bill would improve illegal breeding practises. But no people make up all sorts of lies not to have one.
Sugar face - Yes older Vizsla faces go white. They start from the age of seven and their legs get white also. This is normal for older Vizsla. I call him my distinguished Gentleman.!
As you can see from some of the photos Ive uploaded Frodo is enjoying life.
Frodo likes water but doesn't jump into the deep, which is probably because he is older and wiser as I know I wouldn't lol. But he dabbles on the edge and goes in and waits for the suckers to bring back the ball in. He loves nothing more than a good sniff in the forest and he trots along very pleased with himself.
Grins - I have a few dogs which grin with pleasure. Frodo is one of them. He honestly smiles from ear to ear and I think it's just him telling me how happy he is. I have a connection with animals and always have done and I practise Reiki. I do Reiki on my dogs more than humans! Because I can see the benefit it brings them. I can tell Frodo's energy is extremely happy and he grins which is his way of saying he is so happy to be with us.
So why bring in an older dog you may ask? Well it's all down to genes. In the UK the Vizsla is getting the same lines coming in from Europe. This means the dogs will be inbred as they breed closely together. But we are seeing temperament issues in dogs coming in from some lines. This means they end up in rescue. We do not want to be a rescue statistic, so we try to breed selectively to great temperaments. Knowing the dogs and the dogs in the pedigree is really important. You can pluck off the internet a stud dog and use it today but that does not mean it's a good dog. Most show people do not use dogs off a certain sales website because of the lack of knowledge and understanding of those dogs bred. It's a quick buck isn't it. But that doesn't make it right.
Frodos Dad lives in America, his mum Czech and he was bred by Martha Lacko. I was so impressed with the way his bloodline was put together with superb top dogs that I knew he would bring great things to our home.
Everyone who has had a Frodo puppy so far has come back to me telling me how wonderful they have been. Ive not had anyone come back to me with any problems. They are all sociable loving youngsters.
