Welcome to Pookie's page,
Pookie came into our lives in 2024. Named by my husband as a bit of a joke but it stuck. It suits her really well I have to say.
I used to be a groomer and I loved grooming wool coats. I find it hugely therapeutic and I really enjoy doing it. It's time to sit on my chair and trim. No interruptions, just me and Pookie and I love it.
My mother had Poodles when she was younger, and in fact they had a black poodle who sadly took a dislike to me when I was born and they had to re-home her, which broke my mums heart. So they waited until I was older and brought another a chocolate poodle. Im not so sure now Ive been in the dog world all these years if in fact he was pure bred. But she loved him. Mum also had Cocker spaniels after her poodle and she bred a couple of litters of Cockers and loved it. She always said she wished she had of bred dogs sooner as she loved every moment of it. I used to help her where I could but I used to adore them also.
Anyway thats why I got into having a Poodle it was when mum died that I felt some comfort having Pookie as I know mum would have been thrilled.
Pookie is an Apricot poodle her parents live in the UK but she has international bloodlines. I do not show poodles and at the moment have no intention of doing so. The commitment show folk have to the coats of their dogs is just mind blowing. I am a groomer but I could not give the coat the attention they give for a show ring. I like to keep Pookies coat the same length on body, and I trim her legs tubular, and I shave her face sometimes and other times I let her have a teddy bear face. It depends on how Im feeling.
Pookie has the best temperament you could wish for, she is sweet and loving. She is so typically poodle and busy little dog. She can out run my Vizsla if she wants too. Her bestie is Kiki and boy do they play together, the games is pretty hilarious as Frenchies can be clown like and Pookie is too. Together they have me in stitches some days.
The worst part of a Poodle is the Winter and mud as I like my dogs to be dogs. It's the Gundog lady in me. So my Poodle has a good life, she goes on long walks, enjoys the countryside. But I have to wash her legs down some days. I trim her feet close to skin so it does not cake in-between the pads as this is uncomfortable for a Poodle. You have to use common sense and use the clips as part of welfare not just fluffy cute.
Ive had Pookie hip and elbow scored, and I plan on breeding from her on her season after next one. I like to breed dogs around 2 years of age. I am looking now at stud dogs. I will be selective in who I use as I hope to keep a female puppy if there is one. I would like a red Poodle. My obsession with this colour comes from owning Vizsla. But she could have Black, Phantom, Apricot, Red. If she does not have a girl I may well buy in another girl in a year or so. I have enjoyed my Poodle journey so much.
I wanted a smaller dog to learn about. I hope to do a breed appreciation day for judging them in 2026. Ive judged them once so far and loved it.
Ive thoroughly enjoyed having Pookie. She is a difficult dog to catch on film though so not as many photos as my other dogs. She moves so quick they are a blur. I need a camera not an iPhone to catch her better.
I have to go back on my photos to find them all of her. So this page will grow.
