Yennefer was named after The Witchers character Yennefer, we had watched the episode just before we brought her and I said I have to call her Yennefer. She comes to Yenna, Yen, and Yennefer if she has been naughty ha ha. Just like our kids I suppose.
Yennefer came to us December 2019 after years of us admiring the breed. I only wish now I had owned this breed years before when I was younger. Another HPR breed which is where our passion does lie. An italian hunting dog. I am asked all the time is she a basset hound? No. Is she a hound? They are a gun dog in italy. They have a high hunting instinct.
I wanted to show her, but sadly covid 19 has put paid to that one.
I keep being sent messages will I breed her. Answer is she is too young. We hope one day to have a litter with her, but its not an absolute yes we will . A HPR breed benefits from being over 2 years of age before being bred.
Yennefer is a joy to the whole household, but her and Darryl are inseparable. Where ever he is you can find her. He can be in the workshop and she's outside laying by the door. He is going to show yennefer once covid 19 has gone.
The Bracco has big differences to the Weimaraners and to the Vizsla breed. They are so methodical compared to a Vizsla, no grass left unturned sniffing. Hunting is paramount in their mind. Her breeder said to me you wont look back owning a bracco. She is great, and Yen doesn't bark, she's quiet. They are a quieter breed. She is a thinker however and her eyes say everything about what she is thinking. She can be an absolute dollop however and if something new happens it can throw her, and she gets scared easily. I attended a seminar which summed up the breed perfectly. The lady said you can walk a bracco daily in the same route, and one day a sweet paper will be on the path and thats enough to blow their minds. That is very true of Yennefer. She likes familiar things.
She is fabulous with young children, but first meeting them they scare her. They are chewers if bored, and Yen is given daily lots of things to chew. She is given several walks to keep her occupied. But other than that she is the most laid back loving dog you could wish to own.
They love to carry anything, and she does. She will carry apples, pears about the garden. One day I said to her, "Do you have something in your mouth"? I could see her mouth funny shaped. I opened her mouth and shook her head, and out plopped a whole pigeon. I kid you not, and I have no idea how she could disguise it so well in her mouth. They have such a lot of skin and a large dewlap that the skin covers things when they hold something in their mouth.
Yennefer loves the beaches, she thinks its fab. She chases seaweed on the beach, and dips her toes in water. She has not swum in deep water yet, she prefers to go so far then come back. She is a laugh per minute. We hope to take her to the Lake District soon, as we think she will love the lakes, and mountains for a walk.
