Yennefer's pet name came from the Netflix TV show the Witcher. Yennefer of Vengerberg was a sage. We call her Yenna for short. After owning Vizsla for years and being used to the Vizsla busy nature, Yennefer was a breath of fresh air. She is such a good girl, kindest and most loving soul you could ever wish to meet. The most contented of dogs. We had long admired the breed and we now wish we had owned them years ago. This breed is a very noble breed and when they sit they have an air of nobility. She is intelligent, knows what she wants in life, and almost communicates with her eyes. I often know what she wants, even if its a drink of water. I sometimes wonder if its a kind of telepathy ha ha. But its uncanny that I know what she wants. Yennefer is a very obedient dog. She loves nothing more than to have a blanket in my yard in the sunshine and sit all day and let the world go by. But If I say walk time she springs to life ready for what adventure we may go on. Both her and Gerald are great yard dogs as they amuse themselves. Because Im a stockist of natural dehydrated treats they get something every single day and they entertain themselves. Yennefer is an orange roan girl, marked very nicely. She is the most gentle dog and kind.
I have been asked why I have not shown her. She is constructed beautiful with a fantastic temperament. She has the correct bite, and everything to love about her. But when she was an 8 week old puppy she had a skin infection. She had to have antibiotics to clear it up, but vet put her onto the wrong type. Its like any infection sometimes you have to test first what type of infection it is. In fact it was the 3rd set of antibiotics which killed the infection but the infection took hold and caused hair loss on her nose. This is the reason she is not shown. We are firm believers in loving animals regardless if they are shown or not. Some of my favourite dogs are fireplace dogs. Yennefer being one, as Im so in love with this dog. Yennefer is a firm family favourite.
Yennefer is trained to pick up birds. She accompanies our son Joshua on some shooting, and she sits patiently waiting for the bird until its shot. All HPR breeds of dogs should be able to do basic skills. But what's lovely is she is one of the best pets here. She is a dog which blends into the back ground, and I don't think I've ever had to tell her off yet. She doesn't do anything that she shouldn't.
Yennefer has been on holidays with us as she's so easy to take away with us. Both her and Geralt have been to the Lake District, Wales, and Cornwall. They are dogs which lets us have a lay in the morning, and a relax, but then happy to go out for a walk when we are ready. I can trust Yennefer in and around livestock and she would never leave our side to chase them. Why? Early training, and we expose all our puppies to cattle, sheep and horses early on. I also keep chickens and turkeys as pets, and she can walk amongst them and ignore them.
We have a wonderful home for dogs, with acres of grassland where our dogs can explore and play. Yennefer likes the ball, but often just lets the Vizsla have the ball as the Bracco is not as fast as a Vizsla. Yennefer has her own toy which she likes to cart around, and its a large monkey. Often where she sits you can find monkey not far away. Yennefer is also a good swimmer, and has been to the river bank a few times swimming.
I always say when owning these types of breeds you must be responsible in training them. Because we put a lot into Yennefer early on, has made her the wonderful dog she is today.
Yennefer is legally docked by her breeders vet and I have the defra paperwork sitting in my folder. None of Yennefer's puppies will be docked. Yennefer has had her first litter of puppies with us December 2021. Grateful it was an easy birth and she was just amazing. She will teach her puppies kindness that's for sure. We are keeping a girl from this litter, and her name is Silvestre Destiny is a Beast. Pet name to be decided yet. But hopefully her daughter will go in the show ring from July 2021.
Yennefer is a log burner hog, and loves to sleep in the basket surrounded by my small dogs. She loves them, and they love her. It was a surprise to us when we had Geralt that Yenna hated him on sight, she said what the hell!!!! Suddenly this baby who looked just liked her was hanging off her ears. But with in hours she come around and now you should watch this pair. They play together and she also takes Geralt into the paddock and shows him things. It is hilarious but he's like her shadow, and where you find one, you find the other.
I do feel lucky to own Yennefer as she is one of those dogs which has a big effect in your life. I have had amazing dogs in my lifetime. Yennefer and Geralt are really gentle with my elderly mother. They will both come and sit. Yennefer always sits beside her with head in air and mum strokes her. Yennefer is great also with my 6 year old grandson. But he is rather noisy and like a firecracker some days so she watches him thinking what on earth is this little human doing. ha ha. But Yenna is great. I can not even give you one negative about Yennefer.
Yennefer's diet is the raw appropriate diet, so the 80/10/10 diet with also fruits, herbs and some veg added. She eats for treats raw meaty bones plus dehydrated treats.
Because the Bracco is large boned I do not recommend they are crated all day and all night. They will need the largest crate size possible for crate training but then the dog should be allowed to be free daytimes. Either have a safe garden or in the home.
