Willow was born in 2022, and I knew from birth she would be staying with me. Willow oozed quality from her skin to her bones. Willow always had that extra special something. She is the sweetest girl. I do feel lucky that my dogs are all similar. But I guess raised the same, genetically bred to be great family pets makes them easy dogs to own.
Right from a baby puppy she was easy, and has been a dog which never messed in the house and I can honestly say house trained at 6 weeks of age. Willow soon showed she had ring presence, and at ring craft flew around the ring. She is extremely flashy on the move. She demands everyone looks at her. I called her my pocket rocket. As she was small and yet flew. Not all dogs are easy baby puppies as some can be noisy, and will mess in the crate. But willow was an angel. I really wish they could all be like Willow as she made my life easy. I use her as gold standard of being perfect.
Willow has always been a dog which grins from ear to ear when she is with us. Happy to sit in the boot of the car with the boot up, just sitting watching the world go by. Or on the back seat with the window open watching out of the window. I shall miss not taking her about as much when she is pregnant as she is that easy dog who will just enjoy a car journey. Happy to go out even if it means staying in the car.
Willow's pedigree name came from the Netflix show Wednesday. The whole litter were themed Adams family, and Wednesday's quote of im not perky became Willows name. Willows siblings and Willow was from the largest Vizsla litter we have had here, there were 13 in the litter. We kept two a girl and boy. Then re-homed the boy as he did not quite make showing grade. He lives at the bottom of Snowdon in Wales. Although as we call it a loss financially when we keep pups from a litter it was a big litter and we could afford to run two on. I remember standing them at 8 weeks thinking, Willow will be the right one to keep. But I wanted to run them on to see. Running on is a terminology which show folk use which means letting them develop and see which is the best one. We do not really know one hundred percent if an 8 week old puppy will be the best one.
Willow is a medium sized female, not big by any means. For me she is just the right size. Her colour is Russet Gold, not pale, not dark, and has that rich russet all my dogs have. Willow has no white hairs on her what so ever which again I try to breed.
Willow is extremely agile and fit and healthy. She can balance on the top of our gate and just sit there. It takes some believing to see it. She knows she has been put outside to enjoy the sunshine, yet she wants to come back in. So balances on the gate in the hope I will say come in. If the weather is lovely I leave the back door open and she will come back inside and get inside the crate with door open and sits in the crate. I will say to her some days stay outside and enjoy the sunshine. But she has other ideas. If I leave the door open to the kitchen she sneaks in and sits on the sofa. She will sometimes sit along the top of the sofa and lay like a cat. Spreading her body out evenly and balances. Willow also will cross her front legs whilst she lays there sometimes.
I do adore her character as she has personality, as well as being a Velcro Vizsla she is smart as can be. Training she picked up in an instant. Willow is a kind dog, and she will mother younger dogs I have here. They look up to her for guidance also which is so sweet. Willow's mum is called Roux and Roux is also Candy's mum. But after she had Candy Roux decided she didnt want to really mother her kids. She wanted peace and quiet, so Candy and Willow being half sisters got together one day and Willow took her on. This was so endearing to watch as where ever you found find Candy Willow would stand and keep watch. Then Candy got in Willows crate, and that was it, they were like two peas in a pod. I think Roux was grateful to Willow as she just suddenly aged quickly and wanted peace and quiet over pups jumping over her head. Because Roux wanted a more peaceful life she came to live the opposite side of the house and we then found Roux a home. Sometimes they just want peace and quiet and Roux just was one of those dogs. She is now the soul dog to a couple who say she has transformed their lives.
Willow qualified for Crufts 2023, 2024 and 2025. But we have now mated Willow so she will not be going to Crufts. We always knew March 2025 would be a busy time for us, so we decided not to do Crufts dog show. We shall enjoy hearing how the Silvestre dogs are getting on at the show, but for us this year we are having time out. Willow will be having puppies hopefully.
I want to keep a male puppy and we are going to keep one from Willow. Then Willow will go back to the ring once her body shape goes back and I shall give her a complete rest in 2026 from having a litter and concentrate on trying to get her a title in Europe. I think the litter will just help mature her that little bit and we have mated her to Frodo. This pedigree combination is very exciting and thats why we want a boy from this mating. A dog which we can show here and in Europe but also our next future stud dog. So we are hopeful that she has a few boys so we have a choice.
Willow has had all the relevant health tests for the breed, But also more than what is required, as we firmly believe in doing key health tests.
When you hip score a dog you want to see an even result as it means even wear. Willows is 4:4 which is a really good score and even. We hip and elbow X-ray our dogs and we have it sent to the Australian vet scoring system. This is identical to the UK BVA but the turn around is quicker for results, and it is also cheaper than the UK. None of our scores are now on an open data base we hold the results. All our health tests are put in a folder and when you visit if you want to view them please do.
We also have our dogs eye tested by a specialists eye vet with the BVA scheme. This is done yearly.
Glaucoma tested - Clear
Eye examination - Clear (Check includes: CEA, MRD, TRD, CHC, PHPV, PLA, HC, PLL, POAG, IOP, PRA, RPED - Clinically unaffected)
HUU (Hyperuricosuria)- Clear
CA - (Cerebellar Ataxia)-Clear
DM- (Degenerative Myopathy)- Clear
ECLE -(Exfoliative Cutaneous Lupus Erythematosus)- Clear
DD-Dwarfism - Clear
LH -Short hair dog.
For some doing the DNA testing above may seem a bit much. But we have seen cases of all the above in the UK from some bloodlines. This means it's worth us doing. As these are life changing illness which results in death also.
When you breed looking at DNA testing you get the result. Carrier, Clear, Effected. You can breed a carrier to a clear and no puppies will be affected. You can breed clear to clear and no puppies will be affected. But what you do not do is breed a carrier to a carrier or an effected to an effected. Rest assured we only breed using the tools correctly.

Logan x Ripley Reuben x Olive
Logan pictured left lives as a pet in Ireland now his owners retired him, and he is still fit and well March 25. Ripley pictured second from left we own, and she is an amazing girl.
Reuben pictured second right, was not just a UK show champion, but he dropped the SH, by doing a working certificate. He was a Champion. This lovely boy was owned by Verity who worked and showed him in the UK. He now lives in Greece with her. He sadly died of old age. Olive pictured right is still alive and well at Roughshoot Kennels.
It is lovely to look at pedigree's and know that we have seen all these dogs either ring side or in their home environment.
