WELCOME TO GERI'S PAGE
I was really lucky to welcome Geri into our home in 2022 as she was the last possible chance to retain a girl from our very special dog Tango. He mated Flashpoint Anastasia who belongs to Ruth Martin, and she raised the litter and we had a puppy back instead of a stud fee. Tango brought to our bloodline exceptional fronts, and everyone who knows me knows I like the well constructed front on a dog. I see such poor quality Vizsla in the UK who lack the necessary construction to be fit for purpose. We also got good back ends, and a turn of stifle as another pet hate of mine is straight back legs.
This is why Geri's pedigree name does not have the word Silvestre in front as we did not breed her.
Ruth kept Geri's sister and I'm also very pleased to be in contact with Ted who is very much loved in Blackpool. Ted is part of the Silvestre group on Facebook, and I also give her advice even though I did not breed him. I am very committed to the offspring of any of our stud dogs. Obviously my views conflicted with the breeder on feeding and other issues as we all have our own way we do things.
Geri is a mature adult now having had one litter in 2024 and we kept from that litter a puppy who looks like her mum as her father didn't put his stamp of looks on his puppies. They took after their mums side. Where as Maverick you have miniature Mavericks come out. ha ha.
Geri is admittedly not photogenic and her father was the same. You point a camera and for some reason she thinks it means run to you and get inside your skin time. Where as Indie the extrovert was look at me. Again all dogs are so different. She is so super affectionate.
Geri is easy, and the easiest dog as a puppy up to now. She loves a game, but she does not compete for a ball with the others as she's too gentle natured. Where as some plough into a rugby scrum to get the ball. So we call her the most loving loyal dog possible. She's very wise, and knows life to the T. She knows what we are doing, when we are going out, when we are going to play and when it's dinner time. She sits patiently whilst the others spin around over excited. She is like an old wise woman.
Geri will have a litter to Maverick soon. She had a very long season so we had to mate her over several days to ensure we caught her. I am tempted to keep another girl from Geri, but I will see what she has first.
Geri has a perfect Russet Gold colour coat. She has a slightly thicker tail than some dogs and this is why she has never damaged her tail. She also carries her tail out back at correct height. She is small for the breed, but chunky and workman like. The phrase workman in Vizsla just means well built. She could do a days work is another phrase given to well constructed dogs as they do not tire easily. She has a fabulous front construction, good straight front legs, nice feet, not hare feet. We call them cat feed. As we look at a dog it has to meet the breed standard set out by the clubs and Kennel clubs. What makes a Vizsla a Vizsla. Geri's eye colour is to die for! Again my expression of excellent eye colour. Correct bite and dentition. Geri is very typical in looks of an old heritage of the Vizsla. There was a photo online one day of one of the earliest photos of the breed and one dog in particular looks the spitting image, which shows her heritage goes back a long way. Geri also has an excellent pedigree.
Geri's favourite place in all the world is our small sofa in the kitchen and she gets off that and walks into the dog room and gets inside her crate if we leave doors open.
Geri loves the sofa because it's a focal point of the house. She sits on there with my French bulldog Frooti and the pair watch all day long. Our house is open planned, so you can see from the sofa the kitchen, the dining room and lounge. But they are ready for anything I say Im going to do.
I keep tropical fish, and a bit of a fanatic over my fish tanks. I have two! Yes Im greedy lol. I have an enclosed tank in the dining room where Geri sits and watches the fish. I call it FISH TV! I am super tempted to have an Avery this year, as I love birds. I kept birds as a teenager, and I think Geri would sit and watch them all day. We know someone who breeds Welsh section D horses and they have a huge canary cage for the horses to watch. It stops the horses weaving and getting bored. I think it's a great idea. I know the dogs love the fish tanks. My other tank is open topped with plants growing out the top. Anyway I can talk fish all day and those who are not interested will think, goodness be quiet woman. Geri loves my fish. Indie is also another fish tank watcher and quite honestly he cant be left out with the fish tanks. He would get in one! I kid you not. He may be 8 but all his life he has fished in paddling pools to Lakes. He lives in water literally. We call him my Water babe! Thank God Geri does not do the same thing ha ha.
Geri is known to find me in the bath tub. I hear footsteps and then they stop, then it comes more towards the bathroom, then her head peers around. Then Frooti appears! The two end up on my clothes usually whilst Im soaking in the bath tub. They are both adorable together. I hear Darryl calling the dogs sometimes and they both ignore him as they know where the best treater in the house is! Geri is like a little shadow. I cannot even go to the Loo! She just checks im okay.
I know it's easy to write about dogs and make them all sound the same. But Geri is honestly just fabulous. It's those little quirks that just makes a dog for me.
Geri has just had a new toy put in her crate which I got at Crufts. Her daughter qualified for Crufts several times over, and she also won best puppy in show at the National Gundog championship. So I brought Geri a new toy to say thank you Geri for producing us Bailey who has the most friendly nature you could wish to have. Geri and Bailey are like twins.
Geri is happy to meet and greet strangers, but she has eyes only for me really. I tell everyone my dogs are trained that way as being a behaviourist you cant have dogs running off in the park to annoy others. From a puppy they are on the lead in public places and they are trained to have excellent recall.
Geri soon learnt commands as a puppy. I did obedience with her, but to be honest we did not go past 6 months that I advise for most owners. Geri just knew it, and that was it.
Geri is great in the car, and travels anywhere quite happily. We have taken Geri to the woods locally, down the river bank, and to the local beaches.
Geri was so natural at nurturing puppies, and being kind up to 8 weeks is not always in a Vizsla agenda as they will often walk off them and look back and say okay they are yours! But Geri we had a hard job to wean off as she loved them so very much and would cry. She was so good with them and taught them in her special way. Usually a look which says "dont do that!" Was all that was needed. A kind nurturing mother is what you want because they pass this down through Epigenics.
Geri is great with cats. We had Rizelle for 12 years but she has just passed, so we now have Gabby in the house. Gabby is a pedigree British blue cat who roams the house. She is very much a house cat so they have to get on with her. She loves the dogs and she comes in and gets on the sofa with Geri. I must sneak a photo soon.
Im sorry to say Geri is not a hunter. We do try to keep the dual purpose in our bloodline and going behind Geri is good working lines, but Geri is very much a sofa queen. If there was a trophy for Sofa Queen she would be a champion already. In Geri's first litter just one dog went to a home where they were going to do some private shoots. So just some guys with a gun on land they get permission to go on. Locally we often get lads going around doing this. He was very good im told. But this is not field trial standard. He is a steady dog I'm told who picks up and retrieves easily.
Another daughter is with a keen walker who goes on mountain walks every weekend.
Geri also does that thing which Vizsla do which is sitting on the side arm of the sofa and crosses her legs. It's so cute!
Geri is a swimmer, but she is also a lazy swimmer. She lets the boys dive into the water first with a splash and she waits until they are nearly out, goes in, pretends she has done all the work and Knicks it off them. Thats pretty smart to be fair!
Geri and Brandi are also crate buddies from time to time and they get on like a house on fire. She raised Brandi pretty much as Brandi's mum got sick of Brandi early on. Ripley also shared same father as Geri.
I would love to say quite honestly all the bad points about Geri but there is none. She doesnt roll in fox poop like her cousins here. She doesnt chew anything she shouldn't.
I would say the only fault she has is she loves food so much that I have to watch her weight. She will eat anything. She is not a fussy eater. She just eats it. She also loves a treat and every morning she has a variety of treats. For some they would die for a dog like this as they have fussy eaters.
We have our daily treat which they can consume quick like pigs ear, cows ears, etc. But then in the crate we have cows hoofs, or olive wood, buffalo horns. This is for the time they may feel like a chew and got nothing to do.
To think of words which describe Geri the words are " CUDDLY, LAZY, VELCRO, EASY"
