Welcome to Geri's page.
Geri is coming up to 4 years of age now. Gerri is and remains the most typical of velcro dogs and cuddly bunny. In fact she gets inside your skin! She is the worst photogenic dog as when I bop down she's at my feet! zoom!. So I have so very few photos of her. The majority are of her nose or blurred. We used to say her father Tango was so similar. He was not really one to have photos taken, yet Indie was always the poser of the family. So it's hard to catch Geri at her best. I have however some nice photos of her below.
To sum Geri up she is the sweetest soul and a joy to have around.
Geri loves her walks out, and equally if I say we are at home today she is YAY! I couldn't ask for a better dog to fit in with me.
She has zero working instinct and likes to potter around us on walks and is not a dog thats going to run off hunting. I know thats not what every one wants to hear as some are all about working dogs. But I have to be honest and she is not one. But her father would have worked his heart out, and her mother's line was a working line. Behind them are some great working dogs. Geri is very biddable and very easy going. But she is not a hunter. A lot of it is that she would not want to run off, she always has her eyes on me. I like that!
Geri had 1 litter in 2024 and we hope to repeat the mating as we kept from this mating Bailey. Check out BAILEY'S page Click HERE. Bailey blew me away by winning several Best puppy in breed and she also won best puppy in breed at a championship show. You will be able to meet Bailey at Crufts 2026. It's been lovely to follow also the rest of Bailey's siblings and how they are getting on.
Geri is funny and loves a game, but it's more with toys or searching out food. She is not one to go for the ball as she has too much competition and she would not compete for anything. But if I play with her favourite toy which is currently a Kong lion the will retrieve it for me.
She is a sofa queen when she wants and thats usually when we have lit the log burner in the winter times and she gets close as she can. Theirs a bit of a scrum as to who can get the closed. She will lay on the sofa next to darryl and often pushes her legs against him as she's always close to him. When she gets on the sofa with me she is more civilised. As she will lay with him legs everywhere and very un lady like. When she just with me she will wrap herself around my body and I always say she gives me healing.
Geri lives in our lounge as my older dogs do and thats because they are trust worthy. The ones which are younger live in the dog room as theirs less to get in to mischief with. Geri has several mattress in her crate and then a large blanket which she gets under and hides. You can sometimes just see her nose poking out the end as I walk past. If she is not in the crate she gets on this large fluffy bed I have in the lounge. I call her princess and the pea dog, because those of who remember the ladybird children's books and the tale of princess and the pea. The princess had many mattress but could feel the pea which meant she was a genuine princess. Well thats Geri!
Geri was bred by Ruth Martin of the Velcrozy affix this is why Geri's name its not Silvestre. But her mums line came from the well known Flushpoint affix which was Gill Belton. Everyone who showed dogs over the last 15 years will remember Gill who sadly passed away. I was lucky that Ruth wanted to use Tango on her girl and this was in fact the last litter our Tango had. We retired him straight after. We had the pick of the litter instead of taking a stud fee. We collected Geri on our way back from Holiday in the Lake District which worked well. Ruth did a fab job and Geri soon settled into our busy home.
In statue Geri is not a big dog. You can see this from her photos and she is a lovely size for inside the home. She is 21" to withers which is on the smaller side of standard. But Geri has what we call good bone. What we do not want is small with zero bone as we must remember these dogs are working gun dogs as a breed. They should have strength to them. Geri lost her figure a bit after her litter as it was a big litter. Prior to litter she had an elegant outline and would stand what we call naturally in pose. Thats how I always know a dog is constructed right. If they stand with east to west feet at the front its incorrect, if they stand dipped back it's incorrect. The spine is supporting the whole body. Geri stands with straight limbs. Most people think putting the same colour dog together is all you need to do. Or that looks cute let's use it. But actually we have a standard to maintain. The standard means healthy construction and less health problems.
Geri is not docked as traditionally some are. She also has a lovely thick tail which she passed onto Bailey. The thicker the tail the less likely damage will occur in the dogs lifetime.
Im often asked does Geri swim? Yes she does but she also does not like getting cold. So although she potters around the waters edge if she swims I have in my car a dry robe. I have this huge crate in my dog vehicle and I have such a lot of things in it. One is Geri's dry robe as she likes to warm up on the way back. I did mention she is a princess? But yes she swims. She does get lazy though and lets some of the more active ones go out after balls from water. But yes she swims and yes she retrieves balls from water. She likes the boomerang over a ball to retrieve.
I would say out of all my dogs Geri's bestie is Lane. Lane and Geri will play games together in my field. They have been known to play cat and mouse games which is you stalk me and ill stalk you. Then we will chase and spin around. But in the last year I have to say they do not do it like they did. They are both getting middle aged women!! ha ha. Bit like me and they will stand around near me and watch the youngsters of the pack doing it all.
Most of our dogs have a certain colour collar and Geri's is bright neon pink. This shines against her fabulous russet gold coat.
Geri adores Bailey of course and she still mothers her a year on. She knows she is her little kid and she cleans all the inside of her ears....PUKE! But thats what mothers do, fuss over their kids. It's very sweet and Geri is very maternal.
So what next for Geri? Well we would like her to have a second litter and we are going to repeat the Frodo x Geri mating as we may not get the chance again. Frodo lives with family but he is now 10 and half years old. He's getting towards the end now of a very successful life. He is very fertile of course which is important. He has been such an asset. Im keep to keep another Bailey from the two as she has been such a success in the show ring.
Just one last thing you will not find our dogs health testing results on any open database. Because we use the BVA scheme in Australia. But Geris hip and elbow scores are fab. If you want to view them please just ask when you come here. We do not send health tests online to anyone.
