With some of the coldest evenings forecast with snow, remember your dogs need to be kept warm.
Some people choose to keep dogs in kennels, so please bring your dog inside. Remember if you own dogs, that salt is highly poisoness to dogs so if you road walk your dogs and its been salted, wash your dogs paws as soon as you get home. If a dog was to lick the salt it could be very poorly. If dogs eat high quantities of snow or ice, remember it can cause issues in the stomach with the cold, and can cause torsion in the stomach. So play time should not involve eating ice. Many dogs will require coats to keep warm if their fur is short. So when you go out put a coat on the dog. Good places to buy coats are Equafleece and Hotter. Dogs use more energy when exercising as they are keeping warm, so if you have a dog on the thin side, try and feed it more during cold weather. Do not play too many ball games on hard ice and hard ground as it can cause injuries to claws, and legs. Do not let dogs walk on frozen ice over ponds, lakes etc, as they could give way. Dogs can not always climb out from frozen ponds and they can drown. Many people have also lost their lives by going to save the dogs. Think! Put your dog on a lead if you go past such areas.

Gucci is blooming in her pregnancy and eating us out of house and home. She is fit and healthy and still running about like she is not pregnant. She is now starting to show a small tummy. She is so loving and spoilt. Here is a photo of her at week 7 of pregnancy. Just 2 more weeks to go!
Ruger as we know him better is owned and showed by Lin Gibbons. He is a wonderful boy and we are all so proud of him and what he is achieving.
On Saturday the 17th February he went to Cheltenham and District Open show and won Best of Breed. On Sunday the 18th February he went to Mid West Gundog and he again won Best of breed. What a star he is. So lots of kisses sent his way, Well done Ruger xxx I attended a seminar run by Jacky Cutler at Little Melton, Norwich on The Requirements of a dog show judge. The day was hosted by Christine Chapman who is a kennel club official. I am pleased to say I passed and it was a lovely day out. Good company with my best friend Angie from Wallaroo Gundogs, and we had a super carvery meal followed by more talks and an exam.
We had some good news this week after having Gucci Scanned to confirm pregnancy that she is indeed very pregnant. We did know a week ago as she started showing very early, she is so hungry at the moment so I am increasing her food as she is feeding many new lives inside her.
I have contacted several people who were on the provisional waiting list, and made appointments for you to visit. I have also had a few newer enquiries this week who have now confirmed they would like a puppy. I still may have a baby available, but its hard to say until they are born and until we know the sexes. I am fully booked now on appointments to see people before birth. So any extra puppies we have we will announce when they are born and you can then contact me. Rachel |
