Many thanks to all the new enquiries lately. I am trying to get through them all. I wish I could help everyone but sadly we do not have the amount of puppies to the sheer volumes of enquires.
We have made a big decision over the last few days, after speaking to friends with Hungarian Vizsla. It appears all over the UK lots of people struggle with owning a Vizsla if they have younger children. You will all think you do not fall into that category, but it is a fact. We are not quite sure why, because as a family we had dogs and young children, my family have young children and dogs, but we don’t understand why people cant cope. Forums on facebook for so many breeds of dogs I’m reading how people cant even cope, down to the cockerpoo! The amount of chichuauas bite the faces of their owners is ridiculous. Is it just because facebook is there that people are asking too many questions? We never had facebook back in the day, we never rang breeders asking for advice. We got on with it. So why is everything so different these days ? We are not sure if this is just the age we live in where children are demanding needing to go to lots of clubs and social events, and the dog gets pushed to the back, or if children are not respecting dogs boundaries. For example when I was a kid and I’m 51 if my father said to me, leave the dog alone, I did. I wouldn’t of dared pinched, pulled, grabbed, hugged a dog. Dogs were dogs you left them alone. In fact many people kept dogs in the yard, and they weren’t in houses. Today the term “FURBABY” has been born, and people keep using this term and thinking the dogs are kids. They aren't children. Dogs need routine like children yes, but they need boundaries. They need structured training early on to become that good dog. The more you cuddle a dog, and dont give it commands, the more the dog is confused, and can become dominant. Children are hugging dogs thinking they are loving the dog, but it is alien to the dog. Images of children doing this on facebook and dogs eyes are wide and black which means they are in distress. I even saw a friend of mine her grandchildren cuddling a dog on the sofa, and I could see by the photo how scared the dog was. Dogs do not think in the same way a human does. We think its affection, dogs do not understand that kind of affection. Dogs which yawn widely and make a noise is distress, a dog panting is distressed. If a dog is asleep you leave it asleep. Do you remember the saying “ LET SLEEPING DOGS LAY?”, well that is an old saying, because if you startle a dog whilst its asleep it will react. The Vizsla is a sensitive breed which if frightened will react. Where as a Pug just wouldn’t do this. The Hungarian Vizsla is a breed of dog which must go to dog training classes. Neglect them at your own peril. You can train a dog in your back yard of course, but it doesnt teach the dog manners away from the home. A dog trained in a distracted enviroment will be a better dog in the end day. It wont run off across the park and Knick someone’s sandwich if he has been trained good recall early on in a training class. The one on one trainers are happy to come to your home but it is not ideal for a Vizsla. They must start in classes. We recommend The Kennel club good citizen scheme, you will start with puppy foundation course, then bronze, silver and gold. Obviously I speak to breeders all over the UK, and each one is saying how they are noticing problems with dogs and young children. So I am making a brave step which wont be popular. If you come to me and you want a Pug any age group will be considered, as they are great family dogs, ideal with younger children. I do not breed Bracco Italiano but I understand they are fabulous with children of all ages. The Vizsla we are going to put an age group of 8. So if you own a child under 8 we will not sell you a puppy. We have already committed to couples with children on Brooklyns litter. We will uphold this waiting list. But anyone under 8 for Leya’s litter or any subsequent litter I am very sorry but we are now saying no. I am having trust in those people I have spoken too. I really hope they have listened to what I’ve had to say to them. As this will be a test now for the future for us selling dogs. I do think in general people are not looking at the history of why dogs are bred, how they came about. I had lunch today, a socially distanced lunch in the garden with some show friends. We talk about nothing but dogs. We were talking about our hunting breeds. How different they all are. My very good friend said she felt Weimaraners were by far easier dogs than a Vizsla. Having owned Weimaraners myself I can see clearly the differences in the breed. We talked about how dogs hunt, and how methodical the Bracco is, compared to the Vizsla who goes at such speed they often miss scent and end up coming back. My other friend felt the wire vizsla was much easier than the short Vizsla. What they all have in common is they are hunting breeds of dogs which have higher energy than toy breeds of dog. The Weimaraner is more tolerant of children than a Vizsla we decided. But the Weimaraner is a garbage can and will eat any object. A Vizsla is not so much a chewer. I could go into the differences for ages. For me I felt the Weimaraner was too hard a breed to show, and thats why I stopped having them. I have fibromyalgia and I showed the dogs, and my body felt battered when I came out of the ring showing a Weimaraner as the dog I had pushed, pulled, and the sheer size of them was too much for my body. The Vizsla is smaller, easier to show so for me I changed to the Vizsla. But I love the Weimaraner still very much. I am a great lover of the HPR breeds in general. Talking of chewing dogs, Ive seen a billion posts on Cockerpoo destroying the houses they live in, and owners in utter despair. Well guess what! They are gundogs. Poodles were duck hunters bred in France, bred to go in cold water. The hair was trimmed in strange shapes to protect the vital organs whilst brining ducks out of cold water. The Cocker spaniel is a flushing breed, so busy in the undergrowth working to flush out wood cock. So when looking for a breed of dog look at why they are bred please. The first dog I ever brought was a cavalier King Charles spaniel at the age of 16. They were bred to be foot warmers in King Charles court. They are brilliant with children and make loving family dogs as they are bred to be with people. The Pug can hear a leaf drop because they were bred to be guards in the emperors palace, and although not a large physical dog, they hear a leaf drop and can alert you to strangers outside. It is totally fascinating the more you learn about dog breeds. What a lot of people forget also is, Silvestre show dogs is not just me, Darryl has the final say on who gets a puppy and who does not. If I have concerns I run it by him, and he will say no.

I feel it is up to the responsible breeders to actually start to educate new people looking for a puppy. It has come to everyones attention this week through social media that their is many breeders of Hungarian Vizsla taking the opportunity of Covid 19 to scam puppy buyers. All my friends who breed and ourselves didnt have a litter during March to June because we were unsure what was around the corner.
Where social media is concerned I will admit Im on a very few select groups as many are enough to make my toes curl up on the comments given by so called experienced breeders. Their are several reasons as to why people breed dogs. You have breeders like ourselves that show dogs, and plough money back into our dogs not sparing expense on health testing, chasing across the world bettering their blood lines and ensuring health is on the forefront. Then you have pet breeders which do not care what the dog looks like, so long as it has ginger legs, ginger body and it will do. Lets mate to that dog as its a cheap stud, churn out puppies and lets charge £2500-£3500 and Ive even seen this week £4000 a puppy. Are they council licensed NO! Do they adhere to defra guidance ? NO! Do they submit tax returns?NO! Do they health test to the optimum not minimum? NO! Do they care where they sell puppies? NO! Do they breed to the breed standard ? NO! One lady just told me that the stud dog thats prolific used is a known produced of VIP which is a dreadful disease in Vizsla so your paying all that money for a potential sick animal. STOP parting with your money. Im going to make this plea to you if you are reading this looking for a puppy. The going rate for a Hungarian Vizsla puppy in the UK from health tested blood lines and show lines is £1200 to £1500 a puppy. Would I like to up my charges after reading what people are up too, yes! But the honesty part inside me won't. !!!!! We have far more dog expenses than these pet breeders. We are allowed to claim more tax relief on certain things because we do more than Pet breeders. The pet breeders aren't paying tax. HMRC started looking into dog breeders in 2015 or 2017 I forget now the exact year, but this started a roller coaster because they suddenly realised hang on....dogs aren't £10 they are thousands of pounds, so why aren't we getting a tax return sent in by these breeders. So a national campaign started. They easily found show breeders on the radar, why? because we are in the forefront of dog breeding. Pet breeders not so easy to find. But now their are ways of catching the pet breeders too. So be warned if you are a pet breeder reading this, your days are numbered. Their is now several ladies on facebook who are reporting any breeder they come across. So advertise at your peril if you are not submitting a tax return. Its not what you've learnt, you have to prove from the day you bred you didnt earn income, plus if you did, then you will be given hefty fines. When the law changed on dog breeding in 2018 it started in motion the hope that everyone would start to breed right for the welfare of their breeding dogs. We were all so happy to think this is the end of puppy farming!!!! Did it? No not really. A few paid for licenses and the rest decided they would hide under cover. In April 2020 when Lucy's law came out confirming that if you do breed to make an income then if you do not comply you would face a prison sentence of 6 months and a £20,000 fine. So why are these breeders not complying ? The answer is because of you the buying public are parting with your money, not caring that these breeders are breaking the law. You alone are causing bad welfare amongst breeding animals because you dont walk away. For Gods sake lets get rid of puppy farming. Its cruel, its abhorrent, its disgusting. Ive got sick to death of reading posts in the last three days of extorting puppy prices from poor breeding. It is down to you and you alone to check the breeder has a license. Ask to see a copy. Sadly we know of two breeders giving fake paper work, so contact their council to check if indeed they have a license. Buy from Kennel club assured breeders as these breeders also will be under checks too. This is a separate thing to council licensed. Ive had three people in this last week who didnt realise the assured breeder scheme is not the same as council licensed. Scams going online at the moment are pay a deposit of £500 and puppy never comes. Do not accept home delivery now. When Covid struck the only way a breeder could sell was to do home delivery and that was what the government said everyone must do. Now you are allowed to pick up your puppy. You are not allowed in the breeders home yet, but we are hopeful this will change over the coming months before our litter is due. Ask to see copies of the dogs health tests, if the breeder can not show you, the dogs not tested. Don't accept excuses, or you could end up at the vets for thousands. Buy from responsible breeders who will give you advice, and keep in contact with you if you wish. Be careful of forums on facebook. Sometimes people are giving advice who have only owned one dog, they are not experienced. Some are run by breeders who are charging im told the ridiculous prices, and I never knew this. They use the groups to sell their own dogs. Walk away now! Wait wait wait....patience as you will get a good dog in the end. RANTING OVER! A few years ago I learnt to make Paracord dog collars. I wanted something more robust and I had been been buying designer collars but nothing lasted very well, and I would stand in the pet store and every collar I found boring. So I started learning the basic weave, and then got bored with that too. I was in Belgium and a lady was making the most fantastic collars. She also had 3 racks of EM bead necklaces. I had never heard of them and she told me how the EM bead repelled ticks from the dog, but naturally. I couldn't believe it, as I’m a sceptic anyway. But I brought one for my Pug who is reactive to chemicals. She wore it and then it got bust so I researched where to buy the beads and made my first one. She wore it and a few other dogs wore them and we had no ticks. I convinced myself it was winter time and therefore no ticks. We have deer, hedgehogs, badgers, foxes all that live in our gardens, yet we had no ticks. I got to about May time and I decided why not advertise these necklaces and see if anyone is interested in the UK in buying them. It took off better than I could of hoped for. I have set up a page on instagram and a page on facebook.
Not only EM bead necklaces and I make 3 types, I then made some of my paracord collars which also have sold well, and now I make rope collars and ID whelping collars. Which in itself is another story. Quick release ID collars are unsafe for puppies, they can tug them off, chew them up and swallow them. All breeders knew that hardly any puppies had the same colour on by the time they were 8 weeks of age. Breeder friends said that people were choosing puppies and when they collected they knew they were given a different puppy. So I thought why not make a paracord ID collar which cant come off so easily. Why are dogs actually becoming ill after having chemical treatments for fleas and ticks? We have to remember that conventional methods kill parasites with poison. Yes thats quite right poison. Years ago dogs were flea treated once a year, or every 3 months. Now we are told a monthly treatment is required. The poisons are effecting the immune systems of dogs, the poisons are causing inflammation in the brain. When inflammation occurs dogs shake, fit, or are misdiagnosed with Epilepsy. Some vets are prescribing a tablet form of the poisons, which stays inside the body for longer, and some reports have found it still active 9 months later from first tablet, but in that time you will of been issues more tablets which build up and up. The seriousness of poisons is killing our pets. If a dog you own, shakes, sways, drools, unstable on legs, spaced out, to fitting you must detox your dog. Seek your nearest homeopathic veterinary surgeon who will advise you. Their are no blood tests available to find out if your dogs had a reaction. So pointless even trying. Detoxing the dog is the only thing you can do. Seek help straight away if you suspect a reaction. Conventional vets will not recognise their is a problem. But referral centres are recognising it. Dog lovers and enthusiasts are seeing this. Did you know that if your dog is healthy, fed a raw diet, you can also add natural things to the diet to help repel parasites. Here are a couple of photos of EM bead necklaces I make. I also make Rope collars which are robust. I am hoping to set up an online stop soon, but for now most sales are through instagram and facebook. We booked our dogs into canine imaging for hip scoring then covid struck and it looked like we wouldn’t get the girls done this year. But suddenly we had a phone call that they were doing social distancing visits and seeing all the people who had previously booked. So a trip to South of the UK we went. Ripley has a very very good hip score. Roux has a good hip score. But now we need to wait until the BVA sits again which will be probably a month or so away and then their is a back log. So by Autumn time we hope that we have scores in. If they can sit sooner then we may be in luck and get results back quicker.
Any breeder reading this I highly highly recommend Southern Canine imaging who are efficient, experienced and only sedate dogs. It is better to sedate than to give an unnecessary GA. I think you could say the girls enjoyed their trip as they had a good run over the South Downs. Roux we hope to mate now December/January time 2021. Ripley will have a litter later in 2021. Now I can go ahead and do the DNA tests on the girls. We still cant get Glaucoma done, but the moment we can we will be travelling again to have this done as their is nowhere local for us to get this done. Its such a shame really when as breeders we want to do the health tests but theirs so many obstacles. I can see why people give up. But we are committed to our dogs health as always and to travel 3 hours 30 mins x 2 in a day to get dogs hip scores shows our commitment to our dogs health. Sabrina the Pug under went health tests which we do before breeding our Pugs.
I have just printed off all the results and filed away. I thought it would be interesting to tell you whats been done so far. A total of 7 health tests has been done on Sabrina. Plus a full check on her health with our own veterinary surgeon including checking the heart is fit and healthy. We are pleased to say she is clear of the following tests done. PK deficiency (DNA TEST) n/n clear PDE Pug dog encephalitis (DNA TEST) n/n clear MH Malignant Hyperthermia (DNA TEST) n/n clear PLL Primary Lens Luxation (DNA TEST) n/n clear DM Degenerative Myopathy Exon 2 (DNA TEST) n/n clear Patellar's 0:0 Hemivertebrae - CLEAR We work towards producing as healthy puppies as possible. Some breeds need little exercise and others more. But the one thing in common all dogs have is they should not be over exercised when young. The Vizsla is attracting active people who want to spend hours jogging with their dog but we should not allow our dog to jog beside us until 18 months of age. Dogs bones aren't set, and haven’t matured.
Their is a guideline on how much exercise a dog should have per day and this is 5 mins exercise per month of age. 15 mins up to twice a day. 20 mins when four months. Once a dog is an adult he can do as much exercise as you like. Some breeds of dogs do not require much exercise and the Pug and Frenchie do not need the same exercise as a gundog. Another thing to remember is dogs do not need exercising in hot weather. They need to walk in the early hours of the morning or later in the evening. Brooklyn is in season but has not ovulated yet. Her blood tests show that she is now 1-3 days away from ovulating so all positively going in right directions. Her waiting list is full from the looks of things.
Sabrina the Pug was mated last week and we expect puppies end of July. Sabrina also had confirmed all her health tests results have come in clear on all the DNA test results we have done, her Spinal X-ray showed no abnormalities and her patellas are 0:0. We had this confirmed before we mated her. I do not take deposits on Pugs until the puppies are 2 weeks old. |
