This is the time that our last pups who were born in December will be in the full swing of teething.
Teething is just like human babies the baby teeth are coming to and the adult teeth are replacing. During teething you may even see a new canine sitting tight with the baby tooth. This is usually not a concern. Give your puppies a giant marrow bone and let them have it daily for a week. The chewing can dislodge the tight tooth. Some puppies even at 7 months of age can still have the baby tooth sitting tight. Do not worry about it, eventually it will come out in its own good time. If you have got to 9 months however go and see if your vet can wriggle it free. Ive never known one yet not come out as I've seen it with our Vizsla a couple of times now and ive simply left them but given bones to chew on. Now when teeth come in, they may not look the correct bite as the head is still changing. Do not worry too much as eventually once the head has cracked at 14 months the mouthes are good. When I look at puppies I wouldn't want to see a tight fitting scissor bite as it could go level from a show prospective. For a pet it doesn't even matter if the bite goes level. When I have judged dogs Ive had quite a shock when looking in mouthes at the variance I see before me. Even some adult dogs are shown with incorrect bites. It does not effect the dog what so ever. Going back to teething your puppy will need more things to chew. Beef muscle dehydrated or skin is good. Something they can not eat too quickly. Look at the range of natural treats and buy something which won't be scoffed quickly. You can give toys which are frozen so cool for gums. You can buy teething gel for puppies. Did you know that when teething feet can go flat? Also ears can be held in a funny position. This will change again. Give your puppy gentle exercise on a solid surface and not grass. But no running to damage joints. A good walk around the block is fine but then when on grass you can let them off again. Puppies go through all peculiar growing stages and around 8-9 months you can see the dog looking much better again. As your puppy is in chewing mode give them some puzzle toys to entertain the brain. This helps with just plain forgetting what's going on. You may find a tooth. You may see blood on a toy. Do not panic! It is normal. If worried seek advice from a holistic vet as they may well give you some options to try. A good company that sell holistic remedies and you can ring them up is www.ainsworth.com They can send you something which will help your lovely puppy. But in my opinion I just wait it out giving chews. All will come right in the end. Patience is required. But if you are worried about anything then you can always pay your vet to take a look. A good vet will say wait and see what happens. Most families feel complete after they have children to then introduce a new puppy. In some cases and some breeds it works perfectly well. But in others it can end in disaster.
The Bracco Italiano is an excellent breed of dog with teens, children, babies and toddlers. The Hungarian Vizsla is an excellent breed of dog with older children and teens. The Pug is fantastic with all ages. The French bulldog is brilliant with all ages. The Weimaraner is a breed of dog which is excellent with all ages, but you need to have time for your dog away from children for training. They are tolerant of children. When we look at various breeds they all have their good points and bad points. Dogs raised with children usually have no issues as they have known nothing else. But introducing a puppy into a home with children can bring more issues. As the puppy is new, exciting for the children. They may over mess with the puppy. But also the puppy doesn't know them yet so may react if touched too much. Things to remember: Children should be taught on a daily basis how to act in and around dogs. It is your job the parent to make sure you do not leave any dog unattended with children. Tell your children not to make sudden moves around children and do not shout or scream near a dog as this can cause panic in a dog. If your dogs asleep, never in a million years jump beside the dog or on the dog. The dog is in its rights to react quick which means a bite. Leave the dog alone if it is sleeping. You've heard the expression. "Let sleeping dogs lie"!. Never mess with the dog when its eating or run back and forth by the dog whilst its eating. This can create guarding and a snap in their direction. Do not sit on the floor and eat in front of the dog. Be higher than the dog, or ideally pop dog in crate whilst your children are eating on the floor. Always ask owners permission if you can touch their dog. If they say no, respect it. Finally hygiene.Dogs are mucky and harbour bugs. Do not let your dog lick the faces of children. Always wash your hands after handling the puppy. We as breeders do ask you questions about your children because their is a lot of misconception out in the UK with regards to how good the Vizsla is with kids. Just because one person has a great experience does not mean the next person will experience the same thing. Just remember the Vizsla puppy is not an easy one to take on. Its your job as the parent to put rules in place for both kids and dogs. Do not assume all is going to be fabulous. Its your job to make sure its fabulous by using common sense. Rachel x
April time is the season where fleas seem to get on the move and ticks start to become more prevalent. But I want to plead to you to not use chemicals on your pet. In the last two weeks ive seen posts about dogs who have had serious reactions. One 3 year old Vizsla is trembling and head nodding, which is classic reactions to a build up of toxins in the blood effecting the Brain and central nervous system. A Vizsla puppy who was given a product for flea and wormer beginning with N, and this puppy swelled like a balloon then hair loss occurred. A Scotty dog given a flea and wormer product beginning with B, who died with in ours of treatment. When vets are asked if its the treatment they are given causing these issues, the same answer NO. But there is evidence now after studies which have been done to state the poison is causing deaths, fits, and so much more. At what point do we as the buying customer realise that we do not have to follow what vets are telling us ? Does your dog have to die first before you realise ? At what point are you going to listen?

As a breeder we base the way we feed our dogs around not only experience, but from scientific research and continued learning. Learning via holistic vets.
Did you know that if the mother of your puppy was raw fed during pregnancy, their is a very very high chance your puppy if continued on raw food will never have food allergies ? Scientifically proven. But..... Did you know that if the mother of your puppy was dried fed the chances of your puppy having dermatitis during its lifetime, and allergies to foods is much higher. Scientifically proven. This is why here at Silvestre Show dogs we do our research and have learnt from not just our own experiences but learning from new online platforms increasing our knowledge from the top experts in their field on raw feeding. Not only must the mum have a very good diet full of good nutrients which she will feed the puppies inside her with, but when they are born and start weaning they require various stages of different foods. They start with a chicken paste and milk. Which progresses to a variety. We use fresh goats milk warmed for our puppies. This natural source of great nutrients and pro biotic helps the gut flora of your puppy. Giving it a great immune system. I would recommend you read the book " feeding dogs" By Dr Connor O Brady. It is available to purchase from Amazon. When your buying a puppy these days you can buy from the inexperienced pet owner who will give you no practical advice on feeding, most likely give dried food as they do not understand raw, or you can come to people like ourselves who study every aspect of a dogs life especially diet. We can over complicate diet, when in fact we can give variety over a few days. How your dog is fed, completely channel's the way forward in health. A raw fed dog is a healthy dog, but only if it is fed in the correct way in nutrients. A dog requires a variety of food groups to be a healthy pet. Fruits and veg can be fed along side meat, bone and organs. But do not forget herbs. Im just about to grow some fresh herbs for the summer time here at Silvestre in which I can grow a window box of herbs for my dogs. These will give fresh yummy goodness to our dogs and any puppies we may have. It's the season for eggs here at Silvestre and the chickens and turkeys under cover, are laying fresh scrummy eggs. Sadly due to bird flu controls all chickens have to be under nets. But ours can still scratch around on soil and grass with covers over the top. But because they can not roam freely it effects the egg quality. So I am buying alfalfa blocks with grit and corn in it. This creates the most yellow of eggs, and these in turn are fed to our dogs. A fresh egg and shell has loads of nutrients in. Which is a benefit to dogs health. My Bracco makes me laugh as he loves a turkey egg each day and he follows me to the pen and carries the egg back. Now turkey eggs have a thick shell which if dropped gentle will not break. He has learnt to take the egg to a particular spot in the garden and chuck it against stone and it breaks and he then scoffs the egg. Dogs are not thick just like you will see a bird called a garden thrush which will take a snail to a stone and throw it hard against the stone to break it open then it can eat the insides. Do not forget if you want a puppy that's been started in life to be on raw food, your getting a puppy that will have a stronger immune system for the future, and a blank canvas for you to work with. Rachel xx Amazing news from MelissaEvie aka "INT SHCH, NL & Lux CH Silvestre Last Tango with Silberliss JW" has also been awarded The Weimaraner Club of Great Britain's Top Brood Bitch for 2021
