Again Im writing as my last post seemed to panic would be dog person/persons and saying, if they can not have a dog in the time frame they want then they will have to purchase from someone else.  Very sad when someone says this to us, as it means they don't care about a well bred dog, and just want a dog from anyone just to suit themselves.   Just remember we are in the middle of a pandemic.  This is out of everyones control at the moment. 

Ive had loads of enquiries over the weekend, all not realising you cant pick up puppies as we have been told no-one can do this under the stay at home rules. 

Lock down is causing problems for everyone. It means Stay at home.  Unnecessary travel to pick up puppies is a fineable offence.  Yes you would have to get caught.  Some will risk this of course.
 The kennel club released a statement saying breeders should keep puppies until after lock down. To stop the spread of the virus, we have to abide by our governments rules and regs on what to do.  So thats possibly June or September.  For those breeders with lots of puppies ready to go, I can only sympathise with you.  Especially those of you that do not have adequate house or gardens to cope.  It really is a nightmare for so many. 

Home boarding has stopped.
No dog training classes.
No putting your dog in a car and taking it 2 miles down the road for a walk.  You must walk from home.   No turning up at beaches, fines are being issued. No turning up at woodlands.
Forestry closing woodlands down to anyone walking.  Fines issues. 
Dog walkers have stopped.
Veterinary surgeons are not doing vaccines, only doing emergency calls. 
No insurance as you haven't vaccinated your puppies. 
No health tests can be done on breeding dogs.
No health check can be done on puppies before they leave breeders homes. 

We are hoping that our girl comes into season late.  We will still do video calling and I will contact everyone whose asked for a puppy before I breed her to make a decision there and then.   I know in your eyes its the perfect time to have a dog, as you are at home. But its not in so many ways when you own a Vizsla.  Pugs yes, they fit right in no matter what the circumstances.
Socialisation is key for Vizsla,  and mixing with other dogs which we can not do right now.  So many of you aren't thinking of the bigger picture.  We also cant breed to order as we have too few breeding bitches, because we are not a puppy farmer churning them out every two weeks of the year, or every week of the year.   Surely you would wait rather than promote this kind of breeding?

Separation anxiety is something caused when we do not distance ourselves from a puppy.  If you are at home all the time with a Vizsla then change routine two months later your dog will have behavioural issues.  So being at home isn't the ideal time for a Vizsla.  The people who fall into the category of wanting one for the summer holidays are always the people that struggle after the summer holidays.  We are advising people with puppies to have time out now, or else your puppy will become too dependant on you being at home. 

So have some patience, as this is not about your wants right now.  This is about keeping everyone safe and sound.  As soon as our girl comes into season we will make the right decision then.  By June if they lift stay at home we would be okay.  If they keep it until September which their are talks of today, then this is another matter entirely and we would need to chat to you on the phone still. 


Litter later in the year will be from Leya x Indiana.  Plus hopefully Chilli x Roux.  Roux sadly had all her health tests cancelled due to covid 19.  So the moment they will do them we will have Roux done.   So bear with us, we want to help you with a  lovely puppy, but we also have to abide by the law.  We will do what is right.  I hope you will wait for Brooklyn or even one of my other girls. I waited 18 months to own my first Vizsla, as I knew the breeder I wanted one from, but she didnt have anything available.  

Ill never forget one enquiry I had for a Vizsla. Someone visited me, wanted one, couldn't wait.  When I had my litter I rang them up and they had gone elsewhere.  Six months later a phone call of distress from that person, and I couldn't think who it was.  Telling me that the dog turned out nothing like my dogs, was really having a good old moan. After a few minutes I said, Im so sorry but I cant remember selling you a dog ?  It turned out I didnt, this was the couple who couldn't wait.  They brought one from someone else, and it was an awful looking dog, nothing like mine. Had terrible behavioural problems.  Well of course it wouldn't look like our dogs, it didn't come from my dogs. SIGH!  Just think carefully, you may get a dog, but it may be a dog which is such a poor specimen of the breed.  You just couldn't make up some of the things Ive seen in the years of breeding.

Anal glands is something all dog owners will come across at some point during the dogs lifetime, and its normal and what are they!?
Two pear shaped glands either side of the bottom which help lubricate the stool as it comes out.  But during the dogs lifetime the fluid can change.  Younger dogs the liquid is just that a liquid, of brownish green colour, which smells horrible. Fishy smell.  But some dogs as they get older the liquid solidifies to a cottage cheese type substance.  
Dogs can get infected anal glands also which require antibiotics to clear it up.  Dogs can also have an abscess at the site of the gland which causes pain and discomfort to the dog.

Now many young dogs get anal gland issues, they may scoot their bottom on the floor as their is discomfort or they may self empty.  You may notice a smell on your clothing or sofa and liquid there.  If your dog has bad breath and no evidence of rotten food stuck in teeth or tooth or gum disease and decay then it is often the anal glands need emptying. 

So how do you empty glands.  The best thing is to go to your veterinary surgeons.  Most dogs that need glands emptying simply out grow it, and it just gets better one day.   Or you can try and empty them yourself, but you should be shown how to do it, so you do not damage the glands, and do not cause discomfort to the dog. Maybe your veterinary surgeon can show you. 

If your dog has issues with anal gland you can look at diet.  If it has a soft diet the gland isn't squeezed so it can then get over full. You can put additives into the food to help. Their are a whole range of products you can buy online to add into food, if you do a google search.  Or give your dog a raw meaty bone to see if this helps.  Raw fed dogs do not suffer with anal gland problems as much as soft food or kibble fed dogs, but it doesn't meant they won't get issues. 

This week saw unusual events for the first time the UK was put in Lockdown due to Covid 19. We hope you are all keeping well and those of you who have dogs off us are keeping them entertained.
I’m getting endless enquires. I have NO puppies available at the moment.

Today a statement from the Kennel club was released, stating if breeders have puppies, they must now keep them until after lockdown. This will have implications now if one of our girls comes into season too soon. So we are praying that Brooklyn holds off until May when we have better chances of breeding her. So we are taking each week as it comes at the moment. We have enough people to go ahead with breeding her, but we have to wait and see what happens in the UK now. So fingers crossed we see a turn in cases of deaths, and we are taken out of lock down.

In uncertain times which non of us have ever encountered before, we must think carefully about going out and mixing with others. Breeding dogs is something we do not take lightly and I have considered not breeding this year however dogs need feeding, dogs need veterinary and they still cost thousands to keep each year. So with this in mind we will still go ahead with Brooklyns litter and just take it from there.

We have decided if we do not have enough people wanting a puppy when she comes into season then we wont go ahead. But if everyone still wants one who has contacted me then we will go ahead.

But sadly we will have to put in some measures because I am the Carer for my mother. The care team cant do it now because of covid 19 so I am picking up the rest and she’s 87 and lives with us. So the measures I’m going to put in place is rather different to what Ive ever done before.

We are going to do a video calling appointment, where I can show you the house, where the pups will live, mum and dad and the relatives. If you have FaceTime I can do this, if not then download what’s app, which I will be sending photos on, and we can video call. You will get updates as the puppies grow up and feel part of the family, and I will set aside time for everyone to video call as we cant have anyone in the home unfortunately.

So anyone wanting a puppy whose contacted us before, let me know your waiting still. The moment she comes into season which is now until May we will then arrange a video call.

I will put on hold any other litters until we know how things will be going in the world.

Having a dog during this crisis is actually wonderful as they give us some reason to go out into nature, we have someone to focus on instead of misery. It can be the best thing to boost morals, especially for those families with older children. Dogs are great healers of spirits, and they can be a life saver for depression. We have sold dogs before to couples who have had terrible depression and they have contacted us years later to say how the dog actually got them out of depression, because they simply have to care for the dog. I know, I’ve been there, hence why my dogs mean such a. Lot to me. Having fibromyalgia isn’t easy on a daily basis. Pain never goes away, and the dogs are my life savers.

Now remember if you have rung me and spoken to me before you do not need to ring or call me again. But text me or email me to say your waiting for a puppy. Soon as she is in season I will then message you. I will arrange a video call. Any new people then yes you need to contact me for a chat on 07584279384 however only between these times 10.30am to 2.30pm weekdays. If you text between those times then I can arrange to call you back or you to call me. Texting is always best to catch my attention as I do not carry a phone, and I am outside with the dogs a lot. We have acres of fields and we spend a lot of time out there together. All private land where we wont come into contact with anyone.

Owning a pedigree dog means they come with Kennel club registration. You will hear people say my dogs pedigree, coz its got papers. Well yes thats true, the Kennel club are the ONLY true registration system for pedigree dogs. Their are other companies setting up but they are for cross breeds and dogs of unrecognised colours so they can go with a piece of paper. But doesn't mean they are legit.

When you purchase a dog from us, we will of paid the Kennel club to register your puppy with them. The dog is in our ownership. When you take the puppy home its up to you to transfer the puppy into your name. Ive just gone onto my account with the kennel club and loads of you in 2019 didn't bother to put the dog into your name. I have a list of all of you that have not done so.

If your dog is not registered you can not attend kennel club events. So no dog shows for your dog.

Why do you want a pedigree dog if you do not want to do the one thing which registers dog to you ? Being an assured breeder means I have to register all the offspring with the KC. We gladly do this, so their is a trace of ancestors, and you buy knowing you are buying quality over some of the rubbish thats out there.

Please register the dog into your name, the dog doesn't belong to me, so register it to you. END OF RANT!

Dogs which arent registered is for a reason. A list of possible reasons.

1. Breeder trying not to be on the radar for tax man.
2. Breeder has over bred the bitch.
3. Breeder has had two litters in a year from the bitch.
4. Breeder has mated dog to a non pedigree dog but selling them as pedigree.
5. Breeder doesnt have a clue who the father is, so fobbed you off with saying they are registered and they cant be as they dont have a clue who the dad was.
6. Breeder cant be bothered, or spend the money on registration
7. Breeder may not be council licensed, and breeding over 2 litters a year so the kennel club wont register the breeding.
8. Their are probably even more things people get up too, but I cant think of the other reasons.

So answer is if you have brought a dog off me, now go and change the registration PLEASE. As it appears I own way too many dogs on my records

A Huge well done to those of you that attended Crufts dog show 2020 with either offspring from our stud dogs, or we have bred.
Sadly we couldn't attend this year. But we hope to be there in 2021.

In Yearling Dog Wallaroo Hawk Eye was 2nd place, and 1st place in good citizen class. He was bred by Angie Porter-Manning and Graham Porter and our stud dog Tango was the sire. I understand he also got a 4th place in a working glass as he is a working gundog.

In limit dog Carnlochan Jack Frost a Tango son bred by Cheryl and Graham sutherland in Worthing, and owned by Ian Credland and Graham Butcher was 4th place.

In Open dog wallaroo all that jazz was 3rd place and again bred by Angie and Graham and Chilli was the father who is our stud dog.

Then in Veteran bitch Silvestre Oh Behave for Shelseivad was 3rd place. Owned by Hilary and Emma Davis.

In Good citizen class Bel.Sh.Ch. Carnlochan morning star was 3rd place and she is a Tango daughter, bred by Cheryl and Graeme Sutherland living in Worthing.

A huge well done to all of your, you all did so well. Tango and Chilli said well done kids.

Claire Balding presenting Crufts was discussing the facts which are so important when looking for a French bulldog. Buy from assured breeders, those that health test the parents, and are proper established breeders who do not breed unrecognised colours. Even though we ourselves may only have 2 more litters of frenchies in our lifetime, we will continue to make people aware of dogs needing health tests. Over the last five years the Frenchie became so popular that bad breeders got hold of the breed and starting breeding prolifically the wrong colours, which are created by cross breeding, and these colours health is something which has ruined the breed in general. Ill never forget the day I sat in a veterinary surgeons waiting room (not my current vet) and 5 french bulldogs came in, one by one being carried by the owner, because they couldnt walk. The breathing was shocking and no nostrils. When I walked into the vets I said “You’ve been busy with Frenchies”! The vet rolled her eyes, Each one was being fertility tested as they were being bred. A Lilac fawn, a lilac tan, a chocolate tan, a blue, and a Merle. All unrecognised colours. The one dog was so poorly it couldnt walk. At any time this breeder had 5 litters in a week, local to us. It was shocking! They called themselves hobby breeders, and now licensed with their council, the council next to ours. But it brings the conclusion if you buy from these breeders with unhealthy parents, you will get unhealthy dogs. Please think carefully what you are buying.

For owners of short coated breeds of dog, you are lucky in the fact you will quickly see if your dogs coat or skin is in poor condition. We easily see dull coat, dandruff, hair loss, lumps, hives etc For those owners with longer coated breeds, more often than not your groomer is the first to know if their are problems.

I can not remember to list everything on here, but here are a few ideas to learn from.

I trained several years ago at the Milton Animal college and learnt all about animal care, and dog grooming. Having wrote papers on skin, fur, parasites, even down to the diet of the dog it helped me to go one step further In knowledge for my own dogs. So worth every hour sitting at a computer writing papers.

Check list
1) Run your hands over your dogs body and get used to the feel of the dogs body. Does it have any unusual lumps?
(By running your hands over your dogs body you will get used to the feel of the skin, and if anything changes you will pick it up quicker)

2) Check weekly the skin of the dog, checking ears, check toes on the dog and between the toes.
(By checking the ears often you will make sure the dog doesn't get infested with ear mites. If your dog has ear mites it will shake its head, and scratch its ears. The ears will bleed, look red, have smelly wax inside, and the skin will be damaged from scratching)

3) Look at the skin, is it supple? Or is it dull with dandruff?
(A dog with dandruff can be purely a dog thats on the wrong diet. But also if you have recently bathed your dog and you have not removed the grooming products properly during the rinse, can cause dandruff on the skin. Also poor quality shampoo’s can be detrimental to skin. Never use human shampoo products on a dogs coat.

4) Is the dog loosing coat ?
( A dog will moult the worst time as a puppy coat changes to adult. For example a Vizsla coat can appear yellow, with dark spots on it. It can take a good 12 weeks to come right. If not longer. Once the coat has fully changed it wont moult in the same way again. Ideally bath your dog, and blast the coat with a professional drier. Do not be tempted to over groom the skin, other wise you can damage new hair coming through and skin. Add in omega 3 oils to the diet, to help.

Parasites: Their are many kinds of parasites which can cause problems to the skin and hair. If left untreated it will get worse as these parasites breed quickly. Lice, Fleas, Ticks, Mange, ear mites, walking dandruff to name a few.

Allergies: Often allergies present in either swelling of the skin, or hives. In some cases the hives burst. Allergies could be down to an insect sting, food, plant, or chemical.

Hives: Hives are raised lumps under the skin. Often brought on by stinging nettle or insect sting.

Cancers: Skin cancers can be mast cell tumors, lymphoma is large swollen lumps under jaw at back of scull, under arms and possibly elsewhere.

Infection: Its easy to see infection in the skin. It can be large spots which burst to oozing and weeping sores. Swollen skin.

Thyroid: A dog with an under active thyroid could present with symmetrical hair loss, hair colour change, brittle hair.

Hormone: Bitches after a season can have hair loss, or change in coat colour. To rectify use Primrose oil capsules in the diet every day. Buy from www.dorwest.com If in doubt ask your vet.

Addisons Disease can present with hair loss on the tip of the tail. Some call it a rat tail.

Skin tags are nothing to worry about unless changing colour. Skin tags can be tied off, or frozen off if causing a problem Speak to your vet for advice.

Histiocytomas are skin lumps which are roundish in appearance, They can grow to the size of a small raspberry. They go on their own, but always have it checked by a veterinary surgeon, to confirm this is what it is.

Spots on skin is common with puppies as they are always getting their heads somewhere mucky and just like we can get zits so can your dog.

So what is important is to check your dogs skin often, and to use good shampoo products not cheap ones, and conditioners to the skin. Give your dog a pamper session, after all they are worth it!

injury is easy to see if a dogs ripped its skin. If it has then vets asp.

So to recap, if your dog has skin problems, first make sure its not parasites, look at diet, and use good quality grooming products and never over groom a coat which is poor quality.
