We always try and support our local open shows, because if we do not they will simply go.
We entered Willow, Roman and Maverick. Willow was second in puppy Roman was first in puppy, best puppy in breed, Group 4 and Crufts qualification Maverick 1st in limit, Best of Breed. Thank you to our judge Tanya Gardiner who thought so highly of our dogs.

Ive just added a paper on lumps in health page. This was because recently someone went to the vets with a normal lump which all dogs have and the vet didn't know what it was. So Ive put a photo on showed you what it is, and what its called and the reason they have the lump. Thankyou to Judge Sandra Marshall who was judging Bracco Italiano at last weekends show. We took two of our own dogs with us and handled also the brother.
Silvestre Golden Dragon was 3rd place and this is a crufts qualifying place. I was very proud of him. Silvestre Sword of Destiny owned by Joshua was 3rd place which is a crufts qualifying place. Both brother and sister did very well. The ground was a little uneven and obvious cow pats on the floor which had dried which made my dogs want to run head down and they were little uneasy smelling the cattle which was previously on the field. Not sure I would choose this venue again but Ive not had this problem before. Three times I had too top the dogs rolling in a dried piece. ! Im having a break for a couple of months from championship shows now as we have puppies at that age which needs my constant attention. I do have two very local open shows coming up but Im five mins from the home and I have arranged for someone to be with pups whilst I go. Hopefully I can show Nancy in October. I receive so many phone calls with questions about sizes of our Vizsla. Some people ring up wanting a large one, some people a small one. Like we can predict anything! Let me try and explain.
If you had a baby, could you predict the size of a fully grown adult? The answer is no you can not. My son was born at 5 LB 11 oz and is now 6FT. My daughter was born 6LB 6 oz and is now 5Ft 2. Neither darryl or I are those heights. So small baby got bigger than the larger baby. Diet makes a difference yes, genetics yes. Now with animals, over selective breeding for many generations and line breeding you will get something with in the standard height allowance. What is the standard? Well that's the size range of each dog is put into writing and when judging and showing, we look to dogs which fit the breed standard. So going to a show person you will get more of an idea on size than a pet dog mated to another pet dog with no knowledge on ancestors. If you outcross all the time, you will get BIG, small, medium every day of the week. You can not predict sizes when you out cross as no similar ancestors. When I say big I mean ive seen some Great Dane sized dogs out there, and when I say small I mean slight of bone, weak and generally poor specimen of the breed. So they're is no type on size. In humans it is noted that with genes if you have tall people mating to only tall people you get tall. They're were even giants on the earth years ago. So genetics play a part. Now all our dogs are with in breed standard range. Some dogs on photos are deceptive in looks as they can look big and they are not. I always tell puppy owners when you visit you will think how small the puppies look to the photos sent. This is because I zoom in, get right up close so you can see the puppies. A well bred puppy must have bone. The Vizsla will loose bone, and loose chest. So if you do not have these at 8 weeks you won't see them in an adult and in fact when it goes they will look quite poor specimens of the breed. Castration or spaying can make a big difference to size also. If you take away the sex organs too young, the dog will not grow properly. It may develop long legs, one leg can be longer than other. It causes growth issues in dogs. It is very important to allow the dog to grow up first. A Bitch should have 2-3 seasons depending on how regular she is. A male must be around 3. Do it earlier and you can have behavioural issues, growth issues and poor health earlier than old age. Cancers which would be seen at 10 come forward to 5. So I urge you to go to proper show homes or proper working or agility homes as all of us breed to the standard, and look for things which pet breeders don't think of. Size. ! Health! Temperament. ! I recently had some one try to tell me that one of my dogs is ideal and small. I explained that she was the largest girl I have here. But she is still under the top end of the range allowable for breed standard. They wanted smallest as possible. I found out they went in the end with another breeder, and to a dog that is out of breed standard height and its as big as my males if not bigger. You simply can not help some people with advice I have learnt. Lets hope they love the dog when it reaches the size of a donkey. You can not determine height from a photograph. So rest assured our bloodlines here are correct with in the standard range. You cant guarantee the size, but when you breed selectively you have a good idea they will be with in the normal range required for the breed standard, and rarely would one be too big, or too small. The Vizsla is not a large dog, and it is a medium sized gun dog. For our owners who follow our Silvestre owners access page.
