I am being sent texts and emails from many different people. Some that have never had a dog from us. Others who have done who have moved away from their puppy diet to another type of food and then not happy.
The truth with diet is “You are what you eat”! If you want a totally healthy adult dog it must be given a diet which suits it, which is raw food. Raw fed dogs you can spot a mile off as they are very healthy, coats shine, eyes are bright, no dandruff and skin is supple. Dogs also hold their weight well. They grow slower than kibble fed dogs. Kibble fed dogs means dried feeding. It maybe nice and easy to scoop a cup of food and throw in the bowl and walk off, and the dog may well eat it. But their comes a point after feeding for so many weeks, months or year where you suddenly notice your dog is not looking as healthy as it should be. I am asked on a daily basis through social media, what food do you give your dogs they look in such fabulous condition. Do you use some particular grooming product. The answer is always its the diet that we give. Because we appreciate not everyone wants to feed rawfood, we tell everyone if you are going to feed dried then you should find foods which have the highest proteins in the food. You want to see 70% plus meats in the food. Not meat meal. Meat meal is usually parts of the animal ground up which is poor quality proteins. So if you go and choose a poor dried food then your dogs condition will suddenly deteriorate. Sadly the better foods come with a high price tag, but if you want a healthier dog you will have to pay for it. We advocate raw just purely because our dogs are so healthy, and rarely see the vets. We dont have allergies, we dont have auto immune and we have fit and healthy dogs. The more natural a dog is reared and continued you wont see the vet as often. Because everything we seem to do for the benefit of the dog can cause problems. Wormers and flea treatment can cause fits in any breed, So the over use of these products is putting the dogs at risk each time. A holistic vet once said to me, a healthy raw fed dog wont have parasites, as parasites like hosts who are not healthy. I can not even remember the last time we had a flea. I also must say nature diet is a food which seems to suit dogs digestion well and its a better quality than some other dried foods. Nature diet is meat in a carton which does not have to be frozen. Its like the best of tinned meat if you like. Although tinned meat would have 6-11% protein only. Nature diet has up to 90% if you buy their purely range. Can cause a bit of stinky wind in some dogs, but dogs love it and they seem to do well on it. If your dog is thin what should you do? First look at food and what’s in the food. Then if your feeding high proteins your simply not feeding enough food. If a vet tells you the average Vizsla is 17 kilos then think again. Some Vizsla are larger, have more bone to their body. Remember you should not see a rib. So if you can see ribs your dogs too thin. So use common sense and increase firstly half the daily amount again. If it is still not gaining weight, double the food amount. Split meals into little and often. Some young dogs are so active they will burn off their daily calories quickly. Hence why needing more food. A lot of it is common sense. So our mottos are Raw is best, but if you cant do raw then make sure your food make is higher quality. Poor cereal diets maybe cheaper but the dog will get hardly any goodness from it. We all have the right to feed our dogs what ever we like. But what ever type of food you want the best money can buy,
