Fireworks

We come up to that time of year when fireworks are being let off.  Some dogs dont seem to mind and others its a real fear and anxiety. 

• Never take your dog to a firework display ever.  It can run from fear and never see it again. 
• Draw curtains and put the TV on loudly. 
• Use skullcap and valerian from www.dorwest.com which helps to calm anxious dogs.  Or try CBD oil for animals from simply CBD.
• Buy a thunder jacket for your dog as this close hugging garment can help anxious dogs.
• Buy plug in diffusers which release pheramones which can relax your dog.
• Do not act any differently around the dog.
• If the dog hides under the chair leave it under the chair.  
• Do not push, pull the dog out of tight areas if its hiding as a dog in fear can bite.
• Do not leave fearful dogs on their own for the night.  If you have a fearful dog and you wish to go to a display see if older family will come in and baby sit for the evening. 
• Do not walk your dog in the dark.  Walk early morning and later afternoon and then keep your dog inside. 
• If your dog is a kennel dog it is wise to bring it inside, its unfair to leave a dog outside in the cold with these loud bangs, the stress could effect it badly. 
• Remember keep calm, watch TV as normal but have it louder. Put on an action film with noise, so the dog thinks its the TV and all okay.
• Do not let children crawl over the dog, hug the dog, kiss the dog, this can trigger fear and the dog could snap.
