10 tips on how to dog proof your garden

1. Read up what are poisonous plants to dogs.
2. Fence your garden in well. It must be 6 ft high and no holes in the fence at the bottom.
3. Check green houses for poisons and put up out of reach of dogs. 
4. Do not put poisons down for insects where dogs can lick or chew. 
5. Make sure your puppy can not leap off steps in the garden as it can damage its growing joints. 
6. Do you have a garden pond? Make sure the dog can not get in it, as puppies can drown. 
7. Make sure you do not leave doors open to garages or sheds where anything could be poisonous to puppies. 
8. If your garden has a gate lock it.  To stop thieves pinching your puppy. But if its a safe area make sure you do not leave gates open, as dogs will go through.  Put a heavy spring on the gate so it closes. 
9. Discourage dogs from eating sticks, stones in the garden.  They can cause blockages.
10. Do not grow thorny plants, or plants which causes burns to human skin such as Euphorbias as it can also cause burns and allergies to skin.  Remove stinging nettles from rough areas.   Do not spray with chemicals and allow your dog straight in the garden.  Some garden poisons are not suitable for dogs at all.  Others allow animals on after so many hours.
