Yes Ive been at it again with more health tests results coming in. It seems to of cost a small fortune to get these completed.
Geralt Hips 5:5. Elbows 2, but I shall redo them as I have no confidence in the result. Piper Hips 0:2 Birdie Hips 3:4 Elbows 0:0 Lane Hips 7:7 Elbows 0:0 I find it quite complexing the more I learn about health tests. I am not saying we should not do them because Im not. I do believe when looking at scores the more even they are the better. For example if you saw two huge differences in sides, it would mean uneven and possibly abnormal wear one side for a reason. Maybe injury. But seeing even is comforting that we have normal wear both sides. There is far more to Hip Dysplasia and Elbow dysplasia than breeding from low scores. I always looked at health tests as black and white years ago. I had faith in the system. But 20 years later my view point has changed a lot. I believe we should have them done, but they are a tool for the breeder, not the owner. An X-ray is taken of the hips and elbows by a vet, which is then submitted to the BVA. This is where vets interpretation seems to alter somewhat vastly. Ive had scores done in UK and in Australia and they are graded on the same system. Yet their has been difference in numbers. I will write a bit on HD and ED for the website at some point. We are lucky that our scores have been so good. I use the word lucky because HD or ED comes from out the blue. That is a subject in itself. Comments are closed.
