One of the dogs we bred got stung by a wasp today and his owner contacted me to ask what they needed to do. Lin said please share with people so they know on social media or website. So here is what you need to do.
First assess the situation, was it just the one sting or is it multiple stings. If the area swollen, is it continuing to englarge. Listen to the dogs breathing and does it sound normal ? If yes and only slight swelling you can treat with an antihistamine tablet. Piraton is usually prescribed by vets and you can purchase this and have in your first aid box. Please note pirateze is not any good. If you think their is any change in breathing ring vet immediately and go straight in. If it looks okay get some cotton wool, soak in vinegar and dab on where the dog was stung, give it piraton. Continue with piraton for two days until swelling has gone down. But consult your vet if you are not happy with the dog. If the dog becomes lethargic the odema from the swelling may be infected. If the sting is a bee sting, remove the sting with tweezers and dab with bicarbonate of soda, and treat orally with piraton. Any concerns consult vet immediately, Cold compress can be administered also if you think dog is uncomfortable.
